Django Reversion
Very cheep way to have an undo button on any object in a Django project. Every project should have this installed in my opinion. I've never understood why "undo" isn't a more prevalent UI feature on the web.
Having a mimosa and a frito pie in the hills of Arkansas. http://bit.ly/2SH2sl
Was nice to have lunch with @brooks_lt, @kreeger and the old MSU crew :)
Headed to Springfield, MO tomorrow morning for a few days. Should be fun.
'Star Wars' scientists create laser gun to kill mosquitoes
"The laser, which has been dubbed a "weapon of mosquito destruction" fires at mosquitoes once it detects the audio frequency created by the beating of its wings."
Um, it's about time! I'd like to see every coffee house and bar in Lawrence with outdoor seating invest in this.
Duke Ellington, Ray Brown, and raisins make me happy right now.
Only in Lawrence can you be standing outside of your work and have Andrew Bird walk by with his toiletries in hand.
KUSports 2009 NCAA Basketball Bracket
Travis Cline and Christian Metts did a fantastic job re-writing our brackets app last week. Go KU!
I'm savoring "Notes on the Synthesis of Form" by Christopher Alexander. http://readernaut.com/nathan/books/0674627512/
No laptop, no phone, just a book and my sketchbook in KC for the day.
Newspapers and Thinking the Unthinkable
When someone demands to know how we are going to replace newspapers, they are really demanding to be told that we are not living through a revolution. They are demanding to be told that old systems won’t break before new systems are in place. They are demanding to be told that ancient social bargains aren’t in peril, that core institutions will be spared, that new methods of spreading information will improve previous practice rather than upending it. They are demanding to be lied to.
@squidfingers It's quite beautiful. I think we have a new genre in the making. The Books did a similar riff on the idea with a few tracks.
@benspaulding Just using rsync with a very stationary drive and a very portable drive. I'd like to have another backup on S3...
Charles Spearin makes me happy. http://tinyurl.com/bcal5h
Finally getting serious about backups. $150 is a small price to pay.
So Google is going to start delivering ads through AdSense based on interest derived from a users historical activity. Good idea.
Who wants to start MXMW this weekend! Could kick it off with Get Up Kids on Friday and close with Andrew Bird on Monday, talks in between :)
I'll miss seeing everyone in Austin this weekend. Wish I could be there :(
Laura is playing Scriabin for me.
5 Reasons Renting Still Beats Buying
“Most men appear never to have considered what a house is, and are actually though needlessly poor all their lives because they think that they must have such a one as their neighbors have.” -- Henry David Thoreau
The Get Up Kids reunite this Friday in Lawrence! http://tinyurl.com/azdfpy
Used to pay $2 per allergy pill + doctor visit. Now I pay 30 cents per pill and it's over the counter. Damn drug companies, oh wait...
EventBox
Very impressive social aggregator app for OS X. For a beta the UI is solid and the idea is great. The HUD alone is worth it.
Wolfram Alpha is Coming -- and It Could be as Important as Google
Wolfram Alpha actually computes the answers to a wide range of questions -- like questions that have factual answers such as "What hemisphere is Timbuktu in?" or "How many protons are in a hydrogen atom?" or "What was the average rainfall in Seattle last month?," "What is the 300th digit of Pi?," "where is the ISS?" or "When was GOOG worth more than $300?"
This accounts for about half of the type of activity I use Google for. Want.
I'm gonna go have a latte and watch the tornados roll in.
