Derry City 2-1 Cork City

Derry's Ciaran Martyn
Ciaran Martyn scored the equaliser for Derry on Friday night

Derry scored two goals in the final minute to clinch a thrilling Premier Division victory at the Brandywell.

The Candystripes dominated the first half with Thomas Stewart and Ciaran Martyn wasting good chances.

Cork took a surprise 67th minute lead when the unmarked Guntars Silagailis tapped in from Danny Murphy's cross.

Martyn blasted home from eight yards to level and debutant Aaron Nash headed in from a David Scullion cross seconds later to complete a memorable comeback.

Stewart drilled his early shot straight at keeper Dan Connor before Derry had a penalty appeal turned down after claiming Murphy tripped striker Mark Farren.

Martyn thumped a 34th minute shot over the bar as the home side failed to turn their superiority into goals.

Derry appealed in vain for offside when Silagailis stunned the Brandywell faithful midway through the second half.

Stephen Kenny's team left it late but Martyn equalised from a goalmouth scramble and then Nash scored a crucial first goal for the club.

The victory leaves Derry with seven points out of nine while Cork are still chasing a first win in the league campaign.

In Friday night's other games Bohemians beat Shamrock Rovers 2-0, Bray Wanderers and Galway United drew 2-2 while Dundalk defeated Drogheda United 3-0.
