10 Ways to Speed Up Your Computer Now

9. Install a new graphics card

If you're a gamer on a budget, then the second best investment you can make (after more RAM) is a new graphics card. Perfectly serviceable mid-range cards can be had from both ATI and Nvidia for about $150, and are usually pretty easy to install. Here's how:
  • As you would do with RAM, open your PC and locate the old graphics card (if there is one) on your motherboard (the main and biggest circuit board in your PC).
  • Make sure to unscrew the back panel and remove the old card.
  • Put the new card in the slot and make any necessary cable connections (check the installation instructions).
  • Run the included driver disc after you turn the PC back on.
