A shareholder consortium of Hitachi, John Laing and Barclays Private Equity has formed Agility Trains as the Train Service Provider company to provide the new generation of highly reliable and efficient trains into service. In response to the UK Government's Intercity Express Programme requirements, we will provide intercity trains that, in partnership with the train operating companies, set a new standard for passenger satisfaction in the UK.
A significant feature of our consortium is the way it brings together three delivery-focused, leading organisations, with complimentary strengths and interests.
Hitachi will design, manufacture and deliver the trains into service, drawing on its 88 year history train building. Hitachi has been successfully delivering Shinkansen (Bullet) trains in Japan for 40 years, recently developed the world's first high speed hybrid train and is currently commissioning a fleet of class395 high speed commuter trains for Southeastern.
John Laing who have an unrivalled reputation for rail infrastructure delivery, will supply new and upgraded train maintenance centres across the country that will service and maintain the Super Express fleet.
Barclays Private Equity is a long established manager of infrastructure funds, having launched their first infrastructure fund in 1996. They bring breadth of experience and the balance of an independent third party equity investor to the consortium.
