Guys don't need much prompting to become aroused, but what triggers a response among women is something of an enigma, according to Spa! (9/23).
"Just like some people who get the urge to have a poo every they enter a bookstore, or a wee each time they go into a bank, women can get turned on by the most amazing things," Rika Kurito, a member of the Pink Rotors tells Spa! "In my case, just before my period starts, I sometimes want to go up to some stranger and proposition him. The impulse is so strong, it's almost uncontrollable."
Aki Yoshino is an early morning knee trembler type.
"When I'm seeping with my boyfriend, I'll be just about nodding off and he starts fiddling around with me. It's so annoying I could kill him," she says with a laugh. "But when it comes to early mornings, when I'm not sure if I'm asleep or awake, his touch feels incredibly sensuous."
Kunio Kitamura, head of the Japan Family Planning Clinic, says Yoshino's case is hardly surprising.
"Just like men get their morning glory, stimulation can occur during sleep when only the brain is awake," he tells Spa! "There's nothing mysterious about this phenomenon occurring with women, too."
Fear fuels the sexual appetite of Junko Kubo.
"We were once petting at an amusement park and I was sopping," she says. "It wasn't really because of the guy I was with at the time -- I hardly liked him. What really got me off was being scared that somebody might catch us."
Kitamura notes that nerves that react to sexual stimulation are also set off by stress or fright, which makes the fear of in flagrante delicato so thrilling.
"It's almost like fright and pleasure work together," Kitamura says.
Initial encounters can also have a bearing on how women get excited in the future.
"It was in a graveyard. My first time. With a guy three years younger, who stood me over the back and entered from behind. We were so excited, he even entered me anally," Misaki Kawaguchi says, adding as a result of her debut the mere sight of a young guy is almost enough to get her going.
Psychologist Yuki Usui can believe it.
"Many women are sexually stimulated by the style of sex they encountered with their first experience. We did a study where a woman recalled how she smelled frying fish as she was losing her virginity and now she gets wet every time somebody mentions fish being fried," Usui tells Spa! "The influence of the first time is enormous."
Chika Namiki says she only needs to wear her favorite panties to ensure they're dripping wet all day. She also finds music a turn-on.
"I like any guy who says he plays music. Leather pants are great, too. I really just sit there and stare at the crotch," she says. "Music gets my heart fluttering and I get wet for no reason."
Japan Family Clinic's Kitamura says that sounds, particularly at low frequencies, cause reactions in the erogenous zones.
"Particularly sounds in the 100Hz to 300Hz range," he says. "Incidentally, noise from a car's engine is about 200Hz to 400Hz."
Celibacy, especially if unwanted, can be a major trigger for some women. For some women, though, all they need is love.
"Without love, there's no way I'd ever get wet. Doing it with somebody I don't like isn't at all enjoyable and there's no way I'd orgasm. Love is everything," says Junko Shimada. "I love it when my boyfriend comes to me with an absolutely lecherous look on his face."
Pshrink Usui can understand.
"Obscene expressions on a guy's face when he's having sex aren't something women get to look at a lot, so the looks come across as fresh and new to them. They also like the idea that their man is showing only them an expression he wouldn't normally use with anybody else, which can induce happiness," the psychologist tells Spa! "Happiness is the kind of relaxing effect the body needs for a woman to become wet and it also makes for a more exciting session."
