What a performance from this Japanese girl with charm and grace! It was great seeing the look on her face when the results came in! Good for her! The hilight so far in the Olympics for me. Not only the first medal of any kind for Japan in these Winter Olympics, but the first gold ever in figure skating.
Here's what I found in a few quick searches. I'm sure there's more out there. Would love to see some pics where she bares some toe. She's a classic Asian beauty!

Golden girl Arakawa tremendous in Turin, but still prone to the odd booby
Olympic gold medalist Shizuka Arakawa had hoped to nip her indecent exposure in the bud.Shizuka Arakawa may have skated perfectly in Turin to win gold in the women's singles figure skating, but the woman who brought home Japan's only medal of the 2006 Winter Olympics with her exquisite performance has been known to make a booby or two, according to Asahi Geino (3/9).
Shaky form in the lead-up to Arakawa meant she had more than her share of knockers, which makes her Turin triumph all the more surprising.
"There's never been any doubt that Arakawa is a world class athlete, but she can be inconsistent and over the past few years her performance has been a bit lackluster," a sports journalist tells Asahi Geino. "Even before this Olympics, there was a move to get Mao Asada onto the team. If she'd been allowed to go to Turin (she was too young and had to stay in Japan), there's a high likelihood Arakawa's place on the team would have been in jeopardy."
Arakawa's wobbly form in the months before the Games wasn't the only thing about her that had her critics tittering, and the pre-Games naysayers weren't the only knockers associated with the Olympic champ.
In November last year, Arakawa finished third in the Beijing round of the Grand Prix series. It was during the exhibition skating session that followed the event where Arakawa made her booby as she suffered what some may call a "wardrobe malfunction," turning the exhibition skater into an exhibitionist.
"She grabbed her right leg, swung it up behind the back of her head, held onto it with her arms raised skyward and skated around on her left leg only. The position meant she had to thrust her upper body forward. As she did so, she popped out of her costume," a reporter covering amateur sports says.
"What made it worse was that a major international photography agency took a photo of the incident and sent it around the world via the Internet. The Japan Skating Federation quickly begged the agency to remove the photo from circulation and it did so immediately upon receiving the request. But the agency couldn't do anything about the photos that it had already sent out."
Actually, it wasn't the first time that Arakawa allowed her fans to keep abreast of her form in a way she probably wouldn't have preferred. She let loose stretching backward while performing her trademark Ina Bauer move during the world championships in Germany in March last year.
It was a lot harder to make out that her bosom had slipped out of her black costume as she did so, which probably explains why the Asahi newspaper ran the picture in full color, the weekly says.
"It wasn't immediately obvious what had happened, so there wasn't much of a fuss made about it, but it was cut from publication in some places," a Germany based correspondent tells Asahi Geino.
Perhaps getting more titters among Japan's skating fraternity than Arakawa's nomadic narks, however, is her relationship with teammate Fumie Suguri, who finished fourth in Turin.
Arakawa started skating at age 5 and was soon recognized in her native Sendai as a budding genius. At 16, she competed in the Nagano Winter Olympic Games, only to finish a disappointing 13th. She missed the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympic Games, but scraped her way back on to the team for Turin at the ripe old age -- for figure skating at least -- of 24.
Suguri, who studied a year ahead of Arakawa at posh Waseda University, had risen through the ranks of Japanese skating together with the gold medallist, but the paths they traveled weren't always the same.
"Arakawa made the Olympic team in Nagano, while Suguri missed out. When the next Games came around in Salt Lake City, the tables were turned. They were both really wary of the other. Even though they were at Waseda together, they never talked, or even allowed their eyes to meet," an Olympic insider tells Asahi Geino.
"Even when they roomed together on a tour with the national team, Suguri sat there with her headphones on, listening to music, while Arakawa kept herself otherwise occupied. Suguri used to go around telling her friends that she and Arakawa were 'different types.' At the time, she kept her distance from the naturally talented, practice-loathing Arakawa."
During an Olympic team training camp in January, Arakawa and Suguri made a show of working closely together. Those who know the skaters, though, say it was all a big show for the sake of appearances.
Asahi Geino (3/9)"When they turned up for a media conference together in Turin on Feb. 19, they never once met each other's sight. Suguri kept a hard look on her face right throughout proceedings," the correspondent tells Asahi Geino.
"Of all those associated with the figure skating team at Turin, only Arakawa and Suguri were given individual rooms to stay in. I guess that's because the skating federation wanted to make sure that the two of them did not come into contact."
