Sex soldiers march to the maidenhead beat

Sexologist Kim Myung Gun's Sex Volunteer Corps has just inducted the fourth annual intake of new recruits since its formation as many years ago, according to Asahi Geino (5/20).

"I accept new applications for recruits about once a year and this year I got 42 applications. We started with a written test, then a face-to-face interview conducted by a panel including me and a number of women. We finally came up with eight new members who passed all the tests," Kim, who also works as a Wako University lecturer, tells Asahi Geino.

Kim says his experience as a sex guidance counselor has showed him the number of sexually frustrated women in Japan appears to be increasing continuously, which is where the Sex Volunteer Corps comes in - literally.

"Most of the women who come to me for help are married. And an overwhelming number of them married young, gave birth quickly and have never known any man other than their husband. Their husbands tend to regard them only as mothers instead of women and they've been sexless for years," Kim says. "Women like these are sexually frustrated, with some even seeking medical treatment for their condition. What they're going through, though, isn't something you can fix up just by prescribing some sort of medicine. What they really need is sex."

Kim's Corps, then, becomes the core of the solution for these troubled women.

"A lot of worried married women are peeved because they feel it's been a long time since they've been made to feel like a woman. It's important to treat them like, well, women. They want to be sweet-talked, praised and wooed into bed," Kim says. "Many of these women have been repeatedly spurned every time they've approached their husbands for sex, so it's important to hear what they have to say, then gently teach them that it's perfectly natural to be horny."

Kim adds that members of his Corps have also solved another problem - that of an increasing number of middle-aged married women who're still virgins.

"Most of them have been career-oriented types who've submerged their femininity to try and compete on a level footing with men. But there're also a lot of married women who were virgins when they wed, usually to husbands who had also never experienced sex before, and then they simply lost the chance to ever make love together and the years went by," Kim tells Asahi Geino.

For these women, the men's weekly says, Kim's Corps are offering a physical type of medical treatment.

"I suppose a good way to describe the women who come to me for help would be that they're sexually constipated. The Sex Volunteer Corps is really more like a sex emergency ward. Rather than hunks in their 20s, men around the same age as the frustrated housewives are fairly popular. Some women give really detailed instructions about the types of guys they want, but I'd prefer the picky types to find what they're looking for at a host club," Kim says. "I'm looking for ways to solve problems women have been keeping inside for a really long time. I want to change their lives for the better. Guys looking only for sex aren't going to be of any help."

Kim argues that while his troops' services do more than merely relieve mostly middle-aged women's frustrations, they aren't always guaranteed of attaining the ultimate success.

"Some women's problems continually stem back to the fact that her husband perpetually fails to perform his night-time duties. I want to use sex to help these women gain some independence," the sexologist tells Asahi Geino. "For women in a really parlous state, I recommend going out and getting a job. We need to improve a women's quality of life by giving her sexual and financial independence. Naturally, divorce is also one choice available to independent women."
