Let’s begin with our useful Japanese phrase of the day: “Dono hen ga kimochi ii no?” (Where does it feel good?”)
Unfortunately, writes Shukan Taishu (2/25), while in the midst of a passionate coupling — and particularly when orgasm looms imminent — women tend find such queries to be a bit, well, distracting.
“While my boyfriend and I are in the middle of sex, it’s a bit annoying to hear him fire questions at me,” remarks Tomomi, a 34-year-old teacher.
“One thing that turns me on is to hear him drool, ‘I love to lick you down there.’ That’s erotic as hell. But I’m sort of put off when he asks me where I feel it the most,” she continues. “Heck, I’m already tingling all over — it all feels good. So if I moan aaahhh, yes, yes, there …’ He’ll stop what he’s doing and ask me, ‘Where?’ And believe me, I don’t need that.”
Tomomi’s point is, she has no problem with verbal exchanges in principle, but as she approaches the height of ecstasy, his attempts at discourse threaten to take all the fun out of intercourse.
So, then, how can men ever know what women are really thinking about the act? And since gals would rather snuggle up and doze after it’s over than be subjected to detailed debriefings, how can guys ever find ways to improve their performance?
By reading Shukan Taishu, of course. The magazine’s interviewers sat down with some outspoken female sex enthusiasts and, in four pages, serve up a juicy Japanese version of “The Kinsey Report, 2008.”
Take the example of Yoko, now 35, who’s been married for eight years.
“After we’d been married for two or three years, I’d say about every four times out of five that we make love, we’ll have simultaneous orgasms,” Yoko chuckles. “That’s what good sex is about.”
Yoko rates her hubby’s bed performance 95 points out of 100. “Once he’s in deep and we’re all squared away, all my senses are focused on that one place and I can feel he’s getting ready to pop. I try to get him to hold back a little longer, even if just another five or ten more seconds. If he could just hang on till I’m really ready, I’d give him a perfect 100,” she giggles.
Eriko, 33, works as an office clerk for a shipping company. She’s been dating a co-worker, Noboru, two years her junior.
“I’m completely satisfied with the number of ‘acme’ (orgasms) he gives me,” she tells Shukan Taishu. “He used to be in the military, and in terms of his power and stamina, he’s incredible. In the course of one episode we’ll change positions three or four times, and when he does that I’ll really get off.
“But as soon as that happens, he’ll flip me over to the next position. Let’s say we start off by doing it doggy style, okay? He’ll grip my waist and pound away from behind hard enough to give my neck whiplash. But then as soon as I have an orgasm, he flips me over and starts ramming away in the missionary position.”
Eriko’s second orgasm, if anything, is even more intense. Maybe too intense.
“I can’t dwell on it too much, but it’s like chugging some sort of strong alcoholic drink,” she says. “It’s like being drunk on sex. And you get to the point that from there, it’s just not that enjoyable any more.”
So what does she expect?
“At least after the first orgasm, I’d like him to give me a little while to catch my breath. Then he can put it in again and my muscles down there will start to contract tightly. That’s the best feeling you can get.”
Mika, who sells cosmetics, tells Shukan Taishu that even though her lover is especially well endowed, this is no guarantee of full satisfaction.
“Instead of just ramming me in and out, I’d feel better if he varies the strokes and speed, like he’s playing ping pong. It’s would work better if he only inserts it halfway and then moves his hips from side to side. That’s what gives my G spot the most pleasure.”
Nursing student Etsumi, 28, presently in her second year of graduate school, has been making it with Minoru, who is four years her junior.
“He’d patronized sex shops, but I think I was probably the first regular girl he’d ever made it with,” she tells the magazine. “Anyway at first his technique was terrible. He would just lie there, waiting for me to do something to him. And his idea of foreplay was to suck on my nipples a few times and then ram his thing in.
“It took me about six months to teach him how to slow down and get it right,” she winks. “But he’s made great progress.
“He’s been an eager student of oral sex. He’ll thrust in his tongue a little way, suck on the labia, and then lick my clitoris from the bottom up, until it becomes enlarged … I go crazy.”
