Sheff Utd 1-2 Sheff Wed

Marcus Tudgay's stunning 25-yard strike gave Sheffield Wednesday all three points in a pulsating steel city derby against Sheffield United.

The visitors went in front inside a minute as Tommy Spurr hammered home Michael Gray's pull back.

However, United were level less than four minutes later as new loan signing Arturo Lupoli headed in off the bar.

Tudgay won it as his shot arrowed past goalkeeper Paddy Kenny and Leon Clarke also hit the post for Wednesday.

Sheffield United manager Kevin Blackwell:
"I have to say Tudgay's goal was world class, but it meant that they could shut up shop to a degree and frustrate us.

"We had enough of the ball and we had enough chances as well to have got something out of the game, but sadly we didn't do it.

"But I'm not going to criticise these players. They have been fantastic since I've been here and I cannot complain."

Sheffield Wednesday boss Brian Laws:
"I'm very proud of the players and the supporters. They haven't had a lot to shout about, but when we win these games it makes up for a lot.

"I'm delighted for everybody concerned. It's not just about the new directors, or the chairman, it's about everybody who works for Sheffield Wednesday.

"They have been down in the dumps for a fair few years and one thing that means a lot to them is these games."
