Residents of Roppongi Hills — still Japan’s prime address, despite a reputation sullied by some of its denizens’ scandals — are howling that its name is being soiled even further by one of their number dropping dollops of doggy doo-doo from the upper floors of their high-rise, according to Josei Jishin (3/20).
“It’s the first time a sign has been posted. Even so, we’ve still found a bag filled with dog poop left on the entrance floor. I’ve found poop dumped twice so far this year, and there were two other times before that. There are many residents who own pets, but a lot of them don’t do a very good job of looking after them,” a 30-something woman living in Roppongi Hills tells Josei Jishin.
The sign the woman refers to is one caretakers put up to tell Roppongi Hills pet owners to scoop their poop. Here’s what it says in full, according to Josei Jishin:
“At about 9 a.m. on Feb. 22, a plastic bag filled with pet waste was found in a safety net hung outside the third floor of Tower B. As we have repeatedly mentioned before, those who fail to abide by the rules sully the names of all pet owners.
“We must add that it goes without saying that throwing objects from balconies or windows is extremely dangerous for pedestrians in and around the buildings and we refuse to accept any responsibility for damage or injuries caused by falling objects.”
Roppongi Hills has four residential towers labeled A through D. The dumped doggy doo was found near the 43-story-tall Tower B.
“Tower B is basically made up of residents who lived in the area before Roppongi Hills was built, and they got their apartments in exchange for giving up their land. The inspection (caretaker) Mori Building gave these people wasn’t as strict as it was for those living in the nearby Tower C,” a real estate industry insider tells Josei Jishin.
Irate Hills residents say it’s not just dogshit that pet owners are throwing around.
“Entrances are covered in molted hair and all the posts outside reek of pee from where all the dogs have been lifting their legs,” a B tower resident says.
Another dweller from the same tower adds: “Sometimes you can see the poop around the place, but I’ve noticed the cleaning staff get rid of it pretty quickly. This place is well looked after.”
Mori Building Co., the caretakers of the Roppongi Hills complex, readily admit that there was dogshit flying through the air within the complex.
“We did indeed confirm that fact just the other day. A security guard on patrol found it,” a Mori spokesman tells Josei Jishin. “But we don’t know whether it was hurled down from above or flung up from below.” (By Ryann Connell)
