A teacher at a prestigious private school in Osaka has been arrested for stealing the panties of one of his former pupils, according to Shukan Jitsuwa (6/14).
Hiroshi Inazu, the teacher from posh Seifunanakai Gakuen, is accused of snatching four pairs of the 20-year-old woman’s panties by reaching into the open window of her home and picking them off a clothes hanger.
A neighbor watched what he was allegedly doing, chased after and caught him, then held the teacher until the police arrived to arrest him.
Inazu, 52, says he was drunk at the time, but admits to the accusations of underwear theft.
Kozo Motoi, the head teacher at Seifunankai Gakuen, one of the rare schools in Japan which have junior high and high schools on the same campus, describes Inazu as having been a “passionate teacher.” Others associated with the school say Inazu’s passions got the better of him.
“It’s true that he was passionate about education, but that wasn’t all he was passionate about. He used to look at boys and girls in a clearly ‘different’ way,” an associate of the school’s junior high section tells Shukan Jitsuwa.
Until a few years ago, Inazu had been teaching at Seifunankai Gakuen’s high school section, but had been shifted to the junior high section, a transfer generally regarded as a step down the ladder. Rumors about why Inazu was demoted flew hither and thither.
“Apparently, he was sent to the junior high school because he had some problems with another former female student,” a Seifunankai Gakuen graduate tells Shukan Jitsuwa.
Inazu appears to have kept some overly fond memories of many of his former students, including the woman he’d taught as a girl and is now accused of having stolen her intimate lingerie.
“He apparently told the cops that he found himself in the area of his former pupil’s home and he suddenly felt a longing for her, which prompted him to steal the panties,” a reporter on the police beat tells Shukan Jitsuwa. “I tend to think he’d been planning the theft for some time. He wanted a reminder of what the girl was like.” (By Ryann Connell)
