Love hotel hussy ropes in customer for lunchtime killing

Hiromi Mikado wasted little time offering a motive after being arrested for strangling a man with whom she'd just had sex in a Saitama love hotel, says Shukan Shincho (2/19).

"I just wanted to kill somebody."

When police first heard the stunning 36-year-old's statement, they thought she was bonkers and immediately ordered a psychiatric evaluation for the prostitute.

Mikado met 30-year-old Yoshinori Sato on Feb. 4. She had used a public telephone to call him at a telephone dating club earlier that day and arranged to meet at midday in front of a cream puff store.

After joining up, the pair immediately headed to a nearby love hotel, where they checked in at 12:18 p.m. to a room on the eighth floor they selected from a collection of photos in the lobby.

It was broad daylight and the love hotel was located in the middle of a busy shopping district. After a steamy romp, Mikado turned to Sato some time around 3 p.m. and asked him if he'd like to try a little S&M.

Sato readily agreed and submitted himself to Mikado's wiles as she blindfolded him and ordered him to lie facedown on the bed. When he did so, Mikado pulled out a nylon cord she'd hidden under the bed and, police say, began throttling Sato.

The part-time worker, believing Mikado was only giving him some rough stuff, meekly allowed Mikado to continue pulling on the cord and never resisted as his life was drained away.

"Mikado planned it from the start. She'd been carrying around the rope for a week and had been looking for a likely target who she could later rob," a police investigation insider tells Shukan Shincho. "But, as soon as she saw the body, Mikado began to panic. She rushed all the way down to the love hotel lobby and told the receptionist she'd killed someone. When officers arrived, she just sat there for a while, before telling them she 'just wanted to kill somebody' and 'I don't know how he died.' After we took her in for questioning, though, she finally admitted she killed Sato to get his money."

Sato had once worked in a Saitama brothel.

"She must have been in her late 20s when she started. She's very good looking and quite slender, so had little trouble building up a regular clientele. But she started making deals with johns to meet them on the outside, so the brothel fired her. After a while, her customers stopped looking for her, too and she started selling herself through the phone dating clubs," an associate says. "She was really hard up for money, had no permanent place to live and used to spend the nights in bathhouses or cafes for reading manga."

Mikado's financial woes even extended to one of the most vital tools of her trade - her mobile phone, which had been cut off after she failed to pay her bills, leaving her to resort to a public telephone to contact johns she learned about through date clubs or online personals sites.

Before entering the netherworld, Mikado had been an everyday housewife.

"About 10 years ago, I was looking for a wife for my son and the woman who turned up at the arranged marriage meeting to see him turned out to be Hiromi. She was working in a retail store at the time. They agreed immediately to marry, but we had no idea what a horrible woman she was," Mikado's one-time father-in-law tells Shukan Shincho. "She only took one year to waste millions of yen my son had spent years saving up, mostly playing pachinko or betting on the horses. She was supposed to be a housewife, but never did any work around the home. They had a kid, so my son stuck it out, but about five years ago, when the kid was about three, he'd had enough. We called in Hiromi's father and told him that my son was divorcing his girl. Hiromi's father was so shocked to learn just how terrible his daughter really was, it ended up driving him to his grave not long after."
