What happened to lean, in what sense is this a tactical/cover shooter if you can't lean out from cover?
What happened to the AI? Most of the time they just stood halfway in cover and let me shoot them.
What happened to the HUD? I can't even tell whatthe new HUD is trying to tell me.
What happened to particle effects from the walls, that subtle change in the color palette when you enter slowmo, enemies talking to each other and coordinating attacks, any of the little touches that made FEAR special?
What happened to weapon recoil? What happened to weapon sound effects? The weapons in FEAR felt powerful, in the demo I could barely tell when I was firing a gun.
Why are my enemies glowing Killzone ripoff marines?
    What happened to pacing?

Does anyone else feel like this demo has almost nothing in common with the original FEAR?
    ---
Don't forget, in the meantime, that this is the season for strawberries. Yes.

This isn't FEAR. Just got off the 360 demo, and its a good game, but not FEAR. Massive shame. FEAR 1 was and still is one of my favourite FPS's

Oh Monolith, NOLF and FEAR were 11/10, but i think this has bent to the will of the console shooter

I've played the demo and am totally disappointed. F.E.A.R. 2 is a totally different game.

Ever played Rainbow Six? The original? Yeah, no lean, and it's the game that pretty much started the tactical shooter market.

Damn, white men in armored hazmat suits can't jump.

well, i quite like them both, the thing i was disappointed with in Fear is the guns didn't feel right to me, like in Half Life 2 and CS:Source....i know completely different games, i am just saying that the guns felt right in those games, but thankfully in Fear 2, the guns feel just right.

I mean that in Fear, when you fire a SMG once and you shoot 2-3 bullets, in Fear 2, one shot = 1 bullet....which is good.

Why do the enemies glow slightly orange and red when I'm in slo-mo? Is there something up with my game or is it happening to everyone?

What, slo-mo didn't make it easy enough so they had to highlight the enemies too?

I don't want to call it terrible just yet.

But it does feel all wrong. Weapons feel weak compared to what their doing. And what's with the glowing that enemies give off?

The only parts I really enjoyed were the Alma sequences (does she seem a little more angry this time?), like how she actually gets in your face. And I'll admit, the mech part was pure sex. The weapons on that thing felt like they should, with guys splitting in half and not standing a chance. Then again, my shotgun used to be able to do that.

Honestly, this game gave me a bad impression the moment I wasn't able to change any of the settings with my mouse. What kind of archaic times to we live in when your only means of changing settings are the directional arrows! It was a clear indicator to me that is was a console port.

Also can someone please explain to my why the hell every damn item was highlighted with brackets or a box or something. It's really gives me the impression the game's being dumbed down.

Maybe I'm just being too critical... But dammit there's definitely no excuse for the mouse thing!

Honestly it does feel that alot of things that made original FEAR great and special are no longer present in FEAR 2. The addition to FEAR 2 like the grain filter, new (confusing) hud, gernade handling, and super armored replicas everywhere (regular ones just disappear?), are things I could do without.

Regardless, I stil plan to enjoy the game for what it is when its released.

That's definitely a problem on your end. I'm able to interact with menus and change settings with my mouse just fine.

And overall, I think you guys are being WAY too picky, it's still FEAR. The visceral combat is there, so are the scares and atmospheric environments. What you guys are talking about are things that are purely aesthetic and have no effect on the gameplay.

1st game was not just a shooter, it was a thriller that warped you into its scary and twisted world. The aesthetics is what made the environment that much better. When people see certain things that created that mood for the game taken out, they're going to speak their minds.

    So is this.

This one actually improves aesthetically. We're no longer just running through copy-pasted office corridors with simplistic textures, we're going through a city that has been completely and utterly destroyed by Alma's rage. The environment was constantly changing in the demo.

That's the problem, nothing has been really "taken out" from what makes FEAR ... FEAR! Everything is just presented in a much less clunky fashion.

whats wrong with offices?? i remember many complaining about FEAR 1 was just offices and needed change..but to me that was the thing i loved about it, the offices made the game so much more tense and scary for me.

I used to clean office buildings for my uncle when i was younger, and let me tell you...i have never been more scared in my life! Being in empty offices, random rooms having their lights on.. hearing noises from across the office or hallway, or even on another floor yet you KNOW there isnt anyone in the building... OMG gives me chills thinking about it. Oh and freakin scary azz pictures in some of them! Im telling ya i had to take breaks playing FEAR because it was so eerie to me.

Maybe its from those god awful buildings ive been in? you think i need help? lol

*At Ubi, the Devs said there isn't any demo. Don't get your hope on that.*

There was nothing wrong with them, per-se. It's just the fact that it seemed like you had to keep going through them OVER and OVER again. People can say all they want about the FEAR expansions (and I admit, they had their problems), but at least they were more aesthetically pleasing than FEAR 1.
