Now that the rainy season is over, summer's here for sure. But the fashion front brings some alarming news likely to get Japanese women feeling a little flat, according to Shukan Shincho (8/10).

"This summer's fashion is going to be wearing blouses with revealing tops that leave very little to the imagination and are bound to emphasize cleavage," a fashion magazine editor tells Shukan Shincho.

"Lingerie companies are working their hardest to come up with bras that are really going to show off women's cleavage."

Which may all be very well, except for one minor factor. When it comes to busts, the weekly says the vast majority of women in this country are themselves, well, bust.

That's where undergarment maker Studio Five Corp., one of Japan's biggest bra brokers, comes in.

Normally, when bras are made, a C-cup is regarded as the standard size. Designs and shapes are changed according to whether their contents will be larger or smaller than a C-cup.

Studio Five has taken Japan's local conditions into account and is boasting that it has become the first company to come up with a design exclusively for A-cup women.

Studio Five's revolutionary design is supposed to guarantee that women will have underwear that fits them properly, but also makes them seem to have a more bountiful bosom.

"Actually, A-cup is said to be the most common bra size for Japanese women. Nearly all of them buy bras a size bigger and then fill them out with pads," a Studio Five spokesman tells Shukan Shincho.

"We figured that if women were doing that, we may as well start making an A-cup bra that gives a more voluminous look in the first place." (By Ryann Connell)
