Favorites and Address Bar ? Is there a way to delete my Favorites from my IE7 Address Bar? I cleaned out my browser (Tools/Internet Options/Delete/Delete History), which deleted my browsing history. Unfortunately, my Favorites are still displayed if I Click/Highlight the info on the Address Bar, press DELETE, and then press the Down Arrow Key on my keyboard. |

Re: Favorites and Address Bar ? Hi, You're seeing the TypedURLs list- a registry key. This article explains the TypedURLs history: 157729 - How to Clear the History Entries in Internet Explorer: http://support.microsoft.com/default...;en-us;Q157729 Removing some or all entries is an easy registry edit. For an easier, safer removal method, go to http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm and download "DelTypedURL." This INF file will remove all entries. CCleaner- www.ccleaner.com can clear the TypedURLs list. These two freeware programs will remove some or all entries: IE Address Bar Editor: http://www.freesoft.fsnet.co.uk/ieedit01.htm EditURLs: http://www.aandrc.com/editurls/index.htm Tip: If you type URLs in via File> Open, instead of the address bar, they aren't saved in the TypedURLs key and you can keep a select few URLs in the drop-down list. Hope this helps, Don [MS MVP- IE] "Youka" <Youka@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:4AD0D7ED-5371-44FA-A8D6-0385837C1080@microsoft.com... > Is there a way to delete my Favorites from my IE7 Address Bar? > > I cleaned out my browser (Tools/Internet Options/Delete/Delete > History), which deleted my browsing history. > > Unfortunately, my Favorites are still displayed if I Click/Highlight the > info on the Address Bar, press DELETE, and then press the Down Arrow Key on > my keyboard. > |

Re: Favorites and Address Bar ? Don: Thanks for the quick response! Unfortunately, nothing helped. 1) The only value listed for the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\TypedURLs registry key was the Default value, with instructions to DO NOT DELETE > You're seeing the TypedURLs list- a registry key. This article explains the > TypedURLs history: > 157729 - How to Clear the History Entries in Internet Explorer: > http://support.microsoft.com/default...;en-us;Q157729 > Removing some or all entries is an easy registry edit. 2) Downloaded and ran DelTypedURL, with NO CHANGE. Favorites still listed on Address Bar (as previously described). > For an easier, safer removal method, go to > http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/delcache.htm > and download "DelTypedURL." When I do that, I see the TypedURLs list. Try disabling Autocomplete for web addresses (Internet Options> Content> Autocomplete.) After a restart, try re-enabling Autocomplete, if you want it to be enabled. Don [MS MVP- IE] |

Assuming you mean the list you see when you start typing in the Address bar (aka AutoSuggest), No, unless you disable it by unchecking AutoComplete for web addresses (in Options, Content tab, AutoComplete Settings dialog) > > I cleaned out my browser (Tools/Internet Options/Delete/Delete > History), which deleted my browsing history. I don't think that it is coming from there. One change I have noticed in IE7 is that AutoSuggest no longer includes Desktop items or drive letters. Hmm... type D and see Desktop.ini shows up. I can't remember if IE6 shows that or not (probably depends also on whether hidden files and folders are being shown). Otherwise I find it really helpful being able to type the first few characters of a Favorite and have it come up in the Address bar. E.g. in some cases doing that can be faster than pressing Alt-a and being restricted to typing only one or two characters to try to find a matching Favorite. > > Unfortunately, my Favorites are still displayed if I Click/Highlight the > info on the Address Bar, press DELETE, and then press the Down Arrow Key on > my keyboard. The only thing that that does is make the Address bar search more specific before pressing Enter on the thing that I select. Some of that may be due to having Use inline AutoComplete also checked (in Options, Advanced tab). FYI Robert Aldwinckle --- |

Re: Favorites and Address Bar ? Thanks for your help, guys. Both of you were correct. Unchecking "Autocomplete for Web Addresses" (Tools/Internet Options/Content/ Autocomplete Settings/ Web Addresses) prevents anything from being displayed in the Address Bar (other than the current URL); no URL history, no Favorites, no nothing. Re-booting and enabling (checking) this option restores everythiing to its previous state. So I guess those are my only options -- All or Nothing at All. I was simply lookng for a way to permanently purge the Favorites from my Address Bar, since I don't find this "Favorites in the Address Bar" feature to be particularly usefull (although I can see where others would find it to be a time-saver). All a matter of personal preference, I guess. Anyway, thanks again for your help! |
