Japan is abuzz that hunk actor Shun Oguri and model-actress Yu Yamada, two of the biggest names in the celebrity world, have confirmed that they're an item, according to Shukan Bunshun (5/22).

"Shun Oguri is hot. He's effectively replaced Takuya Kimura as the man women most want to go to bed with," an entertainment beat editor tells Shukan Bunshun.

Oguri and Yamada hit the headlines this week after tabloid magazine Friday caught them on a secret trip together around the Seto Inland Sea.

"Yamada confirmed they started seeing each other after a party in March to mark the end of a TV show they'd done together," Masaru Nashimoto, doyen of Japanese showbiz reporters, says.

Oguri has a rare standing among Japan's showbiz watchers.

"Oguri never acts like a big star. The media loves him. He'll give good interviews and even if his agency doesn't want something talked about, they'll say it in a nice way. His dad was a stage director and brother once worked as an actor, so I guess the environment he grew up in had some bearing on his attitude. He's been involved in showbiz since he was a kid, so his approach to people is different to someone who's just popped up out of nowhere. He's normal," critic Kazuhiko Futada tells Shukan Bunshun.

Oguri is tall, good-looking and a nice guy -- which explains why he's apparently dampening so many panties – and yet his record with women hasn't been the greatest, the weekly says. He's been linked in the past to Morning Musume's Mari Yaguchi, model Miho Tanaka and actress Yu Kashii, none of whom are quite at the top of their respective fields as Oguri can claim he is.

It's a different story for Yamada, who's now trying to make a name for herself as an actress following a successful career as one of the country's top celebrity models.

A reporter for one of Japan's tabloid TV news programs says the importance of Yamada's relationship for her career is evident by the way her handlers quickly acknowledged the love match's existence. The hack notes that when Yamada was revealed in 2005 to be dating, her agency quickly announced that the relationship was over. But it's a different story now.

"When she was found in a relationship a few years ago, she was at the peak of her modeling career and the idea she had a lover apparently threatened to be a black mark on her image," the hack tells Shukan Bunshun. "But it's different with Oguri. Being with him makes Yamada the envy of women across the country and really improves her image, so her handlers admitted to the relationship straight away." Director Yukio Ninagawa has lined up two popular young actors for an upcoming theatrical production. Tatsuya Fujiwara and Shun Oguri will co-star in his version of "Musashi," written by noted playwright Hisashi Inoue.

The story, which revolves around the famous swordsman Miyamoto Musashi, was penned by Inoue more than 20 years ago. He had hoped to turn it into a Broadway musical, but the dream was never realized. Three years ago, he worked with Ninagawa for the first time on a different play, and they eventually decided to team up again to take "Musashi" to the stage.

Fujiwara will take on the role of Musashi, while Oguri plays his rival Sasaki Kojiro. The two swordsmen had a famous duel in 1612, during which Sasaki was defeated and killed.

Anne Suzuki and Kayoko Shiraishi have also been cast. Performances have been scheduled for March-April 2009 in at least Saitama, Tokyo, and Osaka. Ninagawa and Inoue are also aiming to have the play performed overseas in the future.

On 3rd July 2008, the most talked-about celebrity couple currently, Oguri Shun (25) and Yamada Yu(23) both headed for Harajuku area in Tokyo to fulfill separate CM commitments. Yamada Yu was there to attend the press conference for children clothing brand Ciao Style Shop (located in Harajuku) while Oguri Shun was there to promote the new Sony Ericsson re handphone.
Both parties admitted to reporters that their relationship was going well and also tacitly verified reports of their secret disneyland date (reported a few weeks ago).

I agree - x factor nga ang meron ni Shun. I honestly think that's better that just being plain good looking. ^_^

^ So right! X factor + talent = Shun Oguri. Yan ang edge nya sa lahat ng contemporaries nya. Nabasa mo ba yung chismax na na-threaten kuno ang JE kay Shun dahil apparently, mas maraming commercial endorsements si Shun kesa sa ibang JE boys. Chismis lang naman yun. But to be completely honest, I know that only a handful of JE boys can match up to Shun in terms of talent.

Ibig sabihin ba nun na feeling ng JE camp na dapat sila ang may mas maraming commercials kesa sa ibang agencies?
