A Kyoto student who ran a scam with his much older girlfriend to squeeze hush money out of male commuters by falsely accusing them of molestation has been arrested, Nikkan Gendai (3/13) says.
Kyoto resident Fumiyuki Makita, 24, a fourth-year student at Konan University, was arrested for filing a false charge of groping against a salaryman from Sakai, Osaka Prefecture.
He admits to the allegations, apparently after concocting the scheme with his 31-year-old girlfriend to accuse guys of groping and then make them pay up big to avoid being reported to the cops.
Police said Makita and his girlfriend conspired to get her to pretend a 58-year-old salaryman had grabbed her buttocks on a crowded Midosuji Line train in Osaka on the morning of Feb. 1, with the suspect popping up and claiming to have witnessed the incident. Makita pretended as though he didn't know his girlfriend, who put on an elaborate show of crying while he "comforted" her, police said.
Nikkan Gendai notes that Makita and his girlfriend filed charges against the salaryman. But when police questioned him and then his girlfriend separately, they were both telling different stories.
Eventually, the lowbrow afternoon tabloid notes, the girlfriend owned up to the alleged scam and Makita was arrested. (By Ryann Connell)
