South Korean teenager Amy Yang; a two-time winner on the LET this year |
(Wednesday 5th November 2008) -- The inaugural Saint Four Ladies' Masters takes place on Jeju Island in Korea next week, from November 14-16, with a prize fund of €220,000.
As the top ranked Ladies European Tour (LET) player, Gwladys Nocera will lead the European contingent in the new tournament, which is co-sanctioned by the LET and the Korean Ladies Professional Golf Association (KLPGA).
The 33-year-old Frenchwoman will be aiming for her sixth LET title of the year and her 11th in total after recent victories in Scotland, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and Spain.
Amy Yang, a three-time winner on the LET currently ranked fourth in Europe, will lead the home charge after two wins this season, in Germany and Sweden.
The pair will highlight the field of 132 players, including 61 from the LET.
Yang is full of confidence after recording a career best tie for ninth on the LPGA Tour recently when she played at the Hana Bank Kolon Championship, her first professional appearance in South Korea.
“I am happy with how I did last week. It was my first pro event in Korea and a lot of people were cheering for me so I was really happy,” said the 19-year-old, who moved to Orlando, Florida, earlier this year.
“I would like to do well; it’s my second pro tournament in Korea and it’s also a first for the LET. I'm going to try to do my best.”
Yang first displayed her abundant talent to a worldwide audience when she won her maiden LET title, the 2006 ANZ Ladies Masters in Australia, almost three years ago as a 16-year-old amateur.
She collected her first professional win at the HypoVereinsbank Ladies German Open in May aged 18 and followed up with another victory at the Scandinavian TPC Hosted by Annika in August. She shot 63 in the third round at each tournament.

The talented teenager said: “The highlight was my first win in Germany because I got confidence from that tournament. I am really happy that I’ve had two wins this year.”
Among the players making the journey across from last week’s Suzhou Taihu Ladies Open in China are Denmark’s Amanda Moltke-Leth, who shared third place in China and the two-time French Open champion Veronica Zorzi of Italy. Many of the players will be hoping to secure their Ladies European Tour playing cards for next year.
Parallel Media Group (PMG) will be the Promoter for the new event, to be played at Saint Four Golf Club in Jeju. JGolf will be broadcasting the tournament in partnership with PMG and the Korean Sports Marketing company Sportizen.
