All about Tsuchiya Anna 土屋 アンナ

Born in March 11, 1984, Tsuchiya Anna is a singer, model and actress of Japanese/Russian/American parentage. Her real name is Anna Marie Heider Tsuchiya.

Her modelling career started when she was 14 years old, when she became an exclusive model for seventeen magazine, and in 2002, she started to appear in television ads for UNIQLO, KOSE and Edwin.

It was in 2002 that she started her musical career by teaming up with former Oblivion Dust member Kaz Iwaike to form the duo Spin Aqua. As a duo, they were moderately successful commercially, until they disbanded in 2004 because of Anna's pregnancy and marriage to a model named Joshua. Their child Sky was born in 2004. Anna and Joshue divorced in July 2006.

It was also in 2004 that Anna made her acting debut in the runaway hit, Shimotsuma Monogatari (Kamikaze Girls), as the motorcycle-riding punk, Shirayuki Ichigo, opposite Fukada Kyoko. Anna won for herself many acting awards for her performance, and earned the praises of fans and critics alike. Anna still continues to act in different movies and doramas, but she prefers singing over acting or modelling.

She is now a solo artist under the Avex sub-label, MAD PRAY Records, and writes almost all of her song lyrics.

Anna is set to appear at the Anime Expo 2007  in Long Beach, California at the end of this month.

Tsuchiya Anna on World Tour

Singer/actress Tsuchiya Anna is the latest Japanese star aiming to go global. Her upcoming international tour is being touted as the "first world tour by a Japanese female singer".

Starting June 30 in Los Angeles, the 12-show tour will take in Korea, Taiwan and finish in Tokyo on September 1. By my count, that's only four countries. And she isn't even really going it alone, as she'll be appearing during festivals and events such as the "Anime Expo Ax 2007" in L.A. and Summer Sonic at home.

A bit more impressive is the fact that a CD/DVD release of her greatest hits album will go on sale in 42 mostly European countries, a record for a Japanese artist. It will be in stores from July 4. Her popularity in Europe comes mainly from her theme song to the anime series "Nana" and an appearance at an anime expo in Paris last July. In France, she is called the "Japanese Madonna".

Her next single, a double-A-side "Bubble Trip/Sweet Sweet Song" (photo) is due for release on August 1.

ANNA TSUCHIYA coverage at Anime Expo 2007

Even the sun from Southern California was no match for ANNA TSUCHIYA’s hot summer performance this past Saturday in Long Beach Arena, California.

As a Guest of Honor for Anime Expo 2007, ANNA TSUCHIYA performed a one-hour concert in front of a crowd of roughly 3000 people, pending official attendence figures.

ANNA’s US show is only one of the many lives she will be performing this summer, including venues in Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan.

Dressed in the same tank top as she was during the NANA PREMIUM LIVE at Shibuya-AX earlier this year, ANNA has also put on a pair of tight shorts and a pair of tall boots, but what stood out most was her blonde hair with plenty of pink highlights.

Revealing that she felt more natural when writing English song due to the fact that she grew up listening to western music, several of ANNA’s song from her live was written in English, such has one of her recent favorites, “Take me out”, the high-energy “Without you” and the concert-ending piece “SLAP THAT NAUGHTY BODY”.

As the singing cast of the popular TV animated series “NANA”, ANNA performed several songs that were tied to the anime, including the opening number “LUCY”, a differently arranged “kuroi nami”, insert song “zero”, and the first opening song of the TV series, “rose”, which was the crowd favorite as expected.

Not afraid to express her feelings in English even though she admitted that she could not speak the language, ANNA is confident that words are not required to convey how she feels, as evident in other music genre such as classical music by Chopin, to which she could associate rock music strongly.

ANNA believed that the language barrier is a non-issue when it comes to telling others what is in her heart and soul, therefore even in front of the mainly English-speaking crowd at Anime Expo, she thought that she was strangely calm.

ANNA’s high energy, her looks, her strong voice, and her feminine and yet tough stage presence allow her to become one of Japan’s top female rock artists, a trend setter in fashion, and a sought-for actress in the movie business, but ultimately her heart is still in rock music.

She performed her latest song “BUBBLE TRIP”, which is scheduled for an August 1st release, as part of her encore set, and I can’t help to notice the “popness” in this song, which I almost felt that she has deviated from her style of rock; her new single “BUBBLE TRIP / Sweet Sweet Song” will be co-produced by KNS Productions, the super producer team behind artists such as Britney Spears and ‘NSYNC.

ANNA, though, simply wants to broaden her sound to other rock styles, so that she is not limited to a particular style and can diversify outside of the “preconceived” sound of rock music by others.

While she has not considered herself as a successful artist, at the same time she admitted she was not hungry nor did she fear for tomorrow.

The concert itself, according to ANNA, was a lot of fun, and even though she was anxious about the reaction from the American audience, when she saw everyone was lively and very much into the concert, she thought it was a great success.

 Singer-model-actress Anna Tsuchiya will appear in an NHK documentary titled "Shukubo: Kokoro to Karada Mitsuru Tabi." The program shows her spending two days at the Bodaiji Temple in Mount Osore, where she leaves behind her material life and studies under a Zen priest to improve herself.

Broadcast is scheduled for the 16th on the NHK BShi channel.

Tarento Tsuchiya Anna (23) appears in a new Green Film Project CM entitled "Anna and the Earth". The CM, to be shown in TBS on September 3-14, will feature Tsuchiya talking to the earth about environmental problems. One dialogue will be shown each day, in span of ten days. On September 7th, actress-singer Tsuchiya Anna (23) performed at the Russia Cultural Festival anniversary live. Singer and actress Anna Tsuchiya is taking on her second voice acting role in "Soreike! Anpanman: Yosei Rin-Rin no Himitsu," the 20th film in the Anpanman franchise. She will play the heroine, a fairy named Rin-Rin. Tsuchiya previously voiced Lindsay Lohan's character in the Japanese dub of "Herbie: Fully Loaded." The two singers both had minor roles as prisoners in the 2006 film "Memories of Matsuko" (directed by Tetsuya Nakashima). Model Joshua has died suddenly, though details of how or when have yet to be announced. He was 25. His management agency have confirmed his death, but said details would be revealed this week. The ex-husband of popular actress-singer Tsuchiya Anna (24), he was born and raised in the U.S. to a Japanese father and Brazilian mother. His elder sister is talento Friedia Niimura (28), who was born in Germany and formerly used the stage name Kozue Rin. The family moved to Japan when Joshua was 11. He was scouted as a fashion model while working in a Harajuku cafe as a high school student, and appeared in magazines such as "Smart." In June 2004, he married Tsuchiya, who he had known from his teens. They had a baby boy the following November but the marriage ended in July 2006. Joshua appeared in just one movie, the ominously titled "Jisatsu Saakuru" (The Suicide Circle, 2002). The Niimura family have maintained their international lifestyle, with Friedia often traveling overseas and being partly based in Los Angeles.  Koji Yakusho, Anna Tsuchiya, and other cast members attended a press conference Tuesday to introduce their new film “Paco and the Magic Picture Book.” The story takes place in an imaginary world where a man (Yakusho) who doesn’t trust anyone interacts with a young girl named Paco (Ayaka Wilson, 10) who can retain her memories only for one day.

Yakusho said, “This is an unbelievably interesting film. If I had not been involved in it, I would have regretted it.”

The film, which features both live action and computer graphics, opens Sept 13 nationwide.
