01 Sep 2008 (Vanuatu Daily Post-Port Vila) Vanuatu's Principal Electoral Officer, Martin Tete, has announced that tomorrow, Tuesday, September 2, 2008, had been declared a one-off national public holiday throughout Vanuatu, to encourage people to vote in Vanuatu's national election.
29 Jul 2008 (Local sources) The government of Vanuatu has announced that, for government and public service employees, this year's Independence Day public holiday (July 30) would be extended by one day to also include Thursday, July 31, 2008.
21 May 2007 (Radio New Zealand International) A public holiday has been declared in Vanuatu, today, following the sudden death of Catholic Bishop, Michel Visi, yesterday morning.

Background Information |
Governing Law: Official public holidays in Vanuatu are regulated by the Public Holidays Act [Cap 114, revised 1988] as amended by the Public Holidays (Amendment) Act 1993, which established Children's Day, and by the Public Holidays (Amendment) Act No.50 of 2005, which established Lini Day, starting in 2006.
Weekend Public Holidays: Section 3 of the aforementioned Act specifies that public holidays falling on a Sunday are moved to the following Monday.
Arbitrary/one-off Public Holidays: Section 2 of the aforementioned Act specifies that the President acting on the advice of the Prime Minister may from time to time declare other days as public holidays.
