02 Jul 2008 (Solomon Times-Honiara) The Solomon Islands' Minister of Home Affairs, James Tora, announced yesterday that this year's Independence Day public holiday (the 30th), would be extended for an additional day, to include Tuesday, July 8, 2008, as well as the regularly scheduled public holiday on Monday, July 7, 2008.

Governing Law: Official public holidays in the Solomon Islands are regulated by the Public Holidays Act [Cap 151], An Act To Make Provision For Public Holidays, last consolidated in 1996.
Weekend Public Holidays: Sections 2-1 and 2-2 of the aformentioned Act specify that, provided that any public holiday falls on a Sunday the Monday next following shall be a public holiday unless otherwise ordered by the Minister by notice, and that when the twenty-sixth day of December falls on a Monday the day following shall be a public holiday.
Provincial Holidays: Each Province has its own day. When a Province Day falls on a Sunday, the following Monday is observed as a public holiday.
• Feb 25: Choiseul.
• Jun 2: Isable.
• Jun 8: Temotu.
• Jun 29: Central Island.
• Jul 20: Rennell.
• Aug 1: Guadalcanal.
• Aug 3: Makira/Ulawa.
• Aug 15: Malaita.
• Dec 7: Western Province.
