Background Information

Governing Law: Official public holidays in the Solomon Islands are regulated by the Public Holidays Act [Cap 151], An Act To Make Provision For Public Holidays, last consolidated in 1996.  Weekend Public Holidays: Sections 2-1 and 2-2 of the aformentioned Act specify that, provided that any public holiday falls on a Sunday the Monday next following shall be a public holiday unless otherwise ordered by the Minister by notice, and that when the twenty-sixth day of December falls on a Monday the day following shall be a public holiday.  Provincial Holidays: Each Province has its own day.
