Background Information |
Adjacent Public Holidays: the Supreme Decree (Decreto Supremo) 055-2006-PCM of August 22, 2006, establishes that public sector workers are entitled to the day adjacent to a public holiday, as a day off, while making up the time in the following week. Private sector workers, subjest to a case-by-case negociation inside each company, are encouraged to do the same. The goal of this decree is to encourage internal tourism, through the multiplication of long holiday weekends. Note that the decree specifically only refers to December 7, in 2006, and specifies that it only otherwise concerns 2007 public holidays. It thus leaves open the question of whether this will be repeated in 2008 and beyond. Based on the date of the original decree, one can expect news concerning 2008, around the end of August 2007.
