Background Information |
Weekend Public Holidays: It would appear as if public holidays that fall on a weekend are not moved to the following Monday, however no official source has been found to either confirm or repudiate this.
Death of Leading Politicians: The death of leading politicians, active or retired, often results in the last-minute declaration of a national public holiday of mourning .
Angam Day (26 October): the word Angam means homecoming and this day commemorates the various times in history when the size of the Nauruan population has returned to 1,500, which is thought to be the minimum number necessary for survival. The people of Nauru celebrates "Angam Day" - the Day of Fulfillment" - on October 26 to commemorate the birth of the 1500th Nauruan at the end of the epidemic in 1920s.
