Background Information

Governing Law: Official public holidays in Moldova are regulated by Article 111 of the Labour Code of the Republic of Moldova, Codul muncii al Republicii Moldova, (N 154-XV from 28.03.2003 and N 159-162, art.648, Official Monitor of the Republic of Moldova).  Bridge Public Holidays: The aforementioned Labour Code specifies, in Article 111, Section 5, that the Government has the right to transfer non-working days to other days (eg. if a public holiday falls on a Tuesday or Thursday).  Chisinau Day (Hramul Chisinaului) used to be celebrated on the first Saturday in October. However, beginning with 2001, this celebration became fixed and now it is always celebrated on October 14.  Other Sources of Information For information not covered here, see the following specialized websites: National Bank of Moldova (Moldova central bank), ASI Hot Spots (security-related world events: terrorist threats, political strife, strikes, criminal activity, aviation incidents and health outbreaks), CIA World Factbook (maps, demographic and economic statistics), Copp Clark (financial markets' trading hours, settlement holidays and currency non-clearing days), and the IFES Election Guide (information covering upcoming elections, referenda, electoral structures and past voter participation).
