02 Jul 2008 (Isle of Man Government) The Isle of Man Department of Education has released details of bank holidays (aka. public holidays), school term dates and school holiday dates, for the Isle of Man, up to the end of the 2010-11 academic year. The information is available on the Isle of Man Government website.
28 Feb 2008 (Isle of Man Today) The House of Keys have voted to give Onchan MHK, David Quirk, leave to introduce a private member's bill to ensure that Tynwald Day is held on July 5th, even if it falls on a weekend (currently if July 5th falls on a Saturday or Sunday then the Tynwald Day public holiday is moved to the following Monday).

Background Information |
Tynwald Day is the Manx national day, based upon Saint John the Baptist Day (June 24) but in the old Julian calendar, hence tthe date of July 5. In practice observed on the Monday after, if the 5th of July falls on a Saturday or Sunday. Tynwald Day 1947 had fell on a Saturday, and the following year Tynwald voted to stop that happening again because of disquiet among the populace.
Tourist Trophy Races: The Isle of Man TT Races will celebrated its centenary in 2007. The long running, high speed event attracts 40,000 people and 12,000 motorcycles to the small Isle of Man each year. The attraction is not just the amazing high speed motorcycle racing on a 37 mile course of closed roads. It is also the massive social festival with entertainment, club meets and large program of activities .
