02 Jul 2008 (Isle of Man Government) The Isle of Man Department of Education has released details of bank holidays (aka. public holidays), school term dates and school holiday dates, for the Isle of Man, up to the end of the 2010-11 academic year. Background Information

Tynwald Day is the Manx national day, based upon Saint John the Baptist Day (June 24) but in the old Julian calendar, hence tthe date of July 5. In practice observed on the Monday after, if the 5th of July falls on a Saturday or Sunday. Tynwald Day 1947 had fell on a Saturday, and the following year Tynwald voted to stop that happening again because of disquiet among the populace.  Tourist Trophy Races: The Isle of Man TT Races will celebrated its centenary in 2007. The long running, high speed event attracts 40,000 people and 12,000 motorcycles to the small Isle of Man each year. The attraction is not just the amazing high speed motorcycle racing on a 37 mile course of closed roads.
