Background Information |
May Day/Labour Day: In 2002 the date of this public holiday was changed,, to bring it in line with the UK's corresponding public holiday which is set for the first Monday in May, but it set it back to May 1st starting in 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2006. In 2007, it was again changed to the first Monday in May.
National Day is celebrated on September 10, to commemorate the 1967 referendum where with a massive majority the people of Gibraltar voted to reject annexation by Spain.
