Background Information

Weekend Public Holidays: Public holidays that occur on a weekend remain on that date (ie. they are not moved to another date, such as the following Monday, for example).  Olavsoka is considered the National Day.  There were many contradictory sources that had from none to four of the following public holidays as only half-day holidays. Other sources listed some or all of them as full day public holidays for all. These days should be considered as at least half day public holidays while some may indeed take the full day off. The public holidays in question are: Flag Day, Constitution Day, Olavsoka Eve, and New Year's Eve. Please contact us if you can shed any more light on the situation.  Other Sources of Information For information not covered here, see the following specialized websites: National Bank of Denmark (Faroe Islands central bank), ASI Hot Spots (security-related world events: terrorist threats, political strife, strikes, criminal activity, aviation incidents and health outbreaks), CIA World Factbook (maps, demographic and economic statistics), Copp Clark (financial markets' trading hours, settlement holidays and currency non-clearing days), and the IFES Election Guide (information covering upcoming elections, referenda, electoral structures and past voter participation).
