Background Information

The official Independence Day celebrations, attended by the head of government, take place in a different locality every year.  International Women's Day (March 8), Santa Isabel (November 17), and Human Rights' Day (December 10) are listed in many online sources, but are not public holidays in Equitorial Guinea.  The cabinet met and issued a revised list of holidays on February 2nd, 2007. Holidays falling on a Sunday are moved to the following Monday .  Other Sources of Information For information not covered here, see the following specialized websites: Bank of Central African States (Equatorial Guinea central bank), ASI Hot Spots (security-related world events: terrorist threats, political strife, strikes, criminal activity, aviation incidents and health outbreaks), CIA World Factbook (maps, demographic and economic statistics), Copp Clark (financial markets' trading hours, settlement holidays and currency non-clearing days), and the IFES Election Guide (information covering upcoming elections, referenda, electoral structures and past voter participation).
