Background Information

Governing Law: Official public holidays in the Comoros are regulated by the 1984 Labour Code (LOI N° 84 - 018 /PR portant Code du Travail).  Weekends: The weekly days off in The Comoros are Fridays and Saturdays.  End of Ramadan: This holiday's starting date has a rule specific to the Comoros, which makes it differ frequently from that of other Muslim countries, even from those that agree on the same Islamic calendar.  Journée Nationale Maoré: this recently legislated public holiday (journée fériée, chômée et célébrée dans tout le pays) commemorates the 1975 admission of the Comoros to the United Nations.  Other Public Holidays: There are a few more public holidays listed in other online sources (Ashura, Death of President Ahmed Abdallah, Africa Day, ...) but this seems to be due to onlne sources referring to each indiscriminately. No official document or annoncement supports the existence of these dates as holidays.  Other Sources of Information For information not covered here, see the following specialized websites: Central Bank of Comoros (Comoros central bank), ASI Hot Spots (security-related world events: terrorist threats, political strife, strikes, criminal activity, aviation incidents and health outbreaks), CIA World Factbook (maps, demographic and economic statistics), Copp Clark (financial markets' trading hours, settlement holidays and currency non-clearing days), and the IFES Election Guide (information covering upcoming elections, referenda, electoral structures and past voter participation).
