18 Sep 2006 (Government Gazette) The Administrator of the Territory of Cocos (Keeling) Islands, Neil Lucas, has amended the list of public holidays specified in the recently released Government Gazette 02/06 of August 30, 2006, and announced that the Act of Self Determination Day public holiday, normally celebrated on April 6, would be moved to April 5, in 2007.
31 Aug 2000 (Office of the Administrator) The territorial adminustrator of the Cocos (Keeling) Islands has released the official list of 2001 public holidays which, for the first time, adds an annual observance of the Muslim Hijra New Year public holiday.
30 Aug 1999 (Office of the Administrator) The Cocos (Keeling) Islands has released its official list of 2000 public holidays. Note that the initial version of this announcement specifies an incorrect date for the Hari Maulad Nabi (Mohammad’s Birthday) public holiday.

Governing Law: Public holidays in the Territory of the Cocos (Keeling) Islands are regulated by the Sections 7 and 8 of the Public and Bank Holidays Act 1972 (WA)(CKI), as amended by the Applied Laws (Implementation) (Amendment) Ordinance 1994 which is supplemented annually (usually in mid-August) by a Government Gazette announcement by the Territory Administrator concerning variable date public holidays.
Queen's Birthday: Note that although the Applied Laws (Implementation) (Amendment) Ordinance 1994 specifically mentions the Anniversary of the Birthday of the Reigning Sovereign as one of the public holidays in the Territory of the Cocos (Keeling) Islands, it has not been observed since 1999.
Weekend Public Holidays: Public holidays that fall on a Saturday or Sunday are treated in the manner in which they are treated in Western Australia, in particula as regards the Saturday occurrences of the ANZAC Day public holiday.
