29 May 2005 The Youth Day (Dia da Criança) public holiday, which was cancelled since 1991 (lei n 16/IV/91 de 30 de Dezembro) will be restored beginning this coming June 1, 2005.
06 Apr 2005 (Jeune Afrique) The government of Cap Verde has declared a 3-day period of mourning to commemorate the death of Pope John Paul II. In addition, Friday, April 8, 2005, will be a public holiday throughout Cape Verde.

Governing Law: Official public holidays in Cape Verde are regulated by the Decreto núm. 18/84, de 18 de febrero, por el que se establece la obligación de los empleadores de informar a la autoridad laboral del calendario de días feriados, which was amended in 1991 by the lei n 16/IV/91 de 30 de Dezembro, an amendment which was overturned on May 29, 2005.
Weekend Public Holidays: Public holidays that occur on a weekend remain on that date (ie. they are not moved to another date, such as the following Monday, for example).
Cities and regions also have some of their own public holidays.
Municipal Day in Mindelo is January 22.
Municipal Day in Praia is May 19.
