Background Information |
Weekend Public Holidays: Public holidays that occur on a weekend remain on that date (ie. they are not moved to another date).
Saturday Closings: Most stores in Austria close at 13:00 (1pm) on Saturdays.
Maundy Thursday (3 days before Easter) and Good Friday are not official national public holidays, but quite a few stores do close early. Banks are closed on Good Friday.
Christmas Eve (Weihnachten) is not one of the official public holidays but banks are closed on that day, and it is celebrated in the evening. Also, many stores close in the afternoon and don't reopen until December 27.
New Year's Eve is also a day when many places may close early.
Regional Days Each region has a patron saint day, when government offices and schools are closed:
• Burgenland (B): 11-nov (St. Martin),
