CALL, Oral assesment, Asynchronous/Synchronous CMC, Error recognition+Feedback
My postgraduate background consists of an MA in Applied Linguistics, in which I concentrated on CALL and in particular synchronous / asynchronous CMC. As an extension of this, I am now looking into the usefulness of using an asynchronous form of CMC for student assignments and discussion. CALL is something that should not be seen as separate from the standard ESL classroom but can be hopefully integrated in stimulating and efficient ways to reach learner needs.
In addition, within written discourse, I am interested in examining effective forms of error recognition and feedback. As a tie-in to above, I would assess if / how this can be achieved within a CMC system.
A final area of interest lies in finding reliable and valid forms of oral assessment. Through my material development and teaching of a variety of EAP classes I hope to gain further knowledge in this area and contribute to improvements in how the skill can be tested.
