Google Earth Under Fire Again
A group of Japanese lawyers and professors wants Google to stop providing its Street View service of Japanese cities and delete all saved images.
It's happening again! Google is targeted one more time citing security reasons.
A few Japanese lawyers and professors have asked Google to stop providing street-level images of the country's cities online, according to a report.
"We strongly suspect that what Google has been doing deeply violates a basic right that humans have," Yasuhiko Tajima, a professor of constitutional law at Sophia University in Tokyo said.
"It is necessary to warn society that an IT giant is openly violating privacy rights, which are important rights that the citizens have, through this service."
The Campaign Against Surveillance Society, a Japanese civilian group that Tajima heads, wants Google to stop providing its Street View service of Japanese cities and delete all saved images.
It was only this month that a Mumbai-based advocate had filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in Bombay high court seeking a "complete ban on Google Earth and similar sites like Wikimapia". The PIL stated that the websites gave minute details and provided viewers with photographs and "extremely accurate navigational coordinates" as well.
We are not sure if Google Earth and Street View would end up being banned in several countries due to security reasons, but tell us what you think about this situation.
