METRO VANCOUVER - Langley RCMP are investigating a break and enter last weekend at a large turkey farm in the 19600 block of 24th Avenue that ended with about 100 turkeys being mutilated and killed.

According to a police news release, the break-in occurred late Saturday night and early Sunday morning. Police would not release the name of the farm.

According to Michel Benoit, the general manager of the B.C. Turkey Marketing Board, this is the first such incident this year.

While the market value of the turkeys was "insignificant," Benoit said he was more concerned about the display of animal cruelty and the invasion of property.

Police said some of the turkeys were disemboweled and beheaded.

During the same night, a house was set on fire just blocks away from the farm, according to a neighbour.

Anyone with information relating to this crime is asked to call Langley RCMP at 604-532-3200.

This is a disgrace . We as humans have for some reason decided we can just use and abuse the animal kingdom.WE think we are a superior being. Well this is just not so and we continue to prove this with our actions. I am so ashamed of what we have become.

Another tragedy caused by the brainwashed animal rights activists who are told that some how they are doing good by destroying legal business . With groups like PETA who through their financing of terrorrism groups like the animal liberation front and other groups that are running all the animal shelters out there who are working hard to make sure that in as little as 10 years there will be no pet industry at all . With mandatory spay/neuter laws being forced on every city council in a few years there will be no puppies or kittens available for anyone . With the current alien species law there will be no pet stores in existence. With canwest they have adopted a no exotic animal policy based on fear which must be why their pet contest discriminates on the people that catre about their animals and do not treat their animals as if they were disposible like people do with their cats and dogs.

I can't believe how sick people are..it was probably some goofs just out having a "good time" and decided to slaughter a few turkeys because "they're just turkeys!"...losers! BTW - Nobody, you need to confirm the facts before you go off on animal protection agencies accusing them of something they probably didn't do (kill turkeys to save them from being killed for food???, doesn't make sense). Secondly, exotic animals belong where they originated, not in some glass tank for some one to look at..these are wild creatures that SHOULD NOT be made into pets. Dogs & cats were domesticated many moons ago, and ARE NOT disposable to most people out there....although I've never heard of snakes, lizards etc. EVER being discarded...exotic pet owners are just the same as any other animal lover...except they're stealing animals from their wild habitat to make into a "jailed" creature.

This is really disgusting. Why do we as humans do these acts of inhumanity. Is it jealousy or just thrills people get by doing these things. As human beings we should try to use our mental energies to construction and not destruction.

This has nothing to do with animal rights. Please do me a favor and actually try to get your neurons to fire. People drape violent crimes with their political lens. PLEASE THINK FOR ONCE !!! This is the act of a violent individual who does not care about the harm he does to helpless creatures or someone's livelihood. This is a dangerous person who has no doubt been raised by people who did not care about him or her - probably drug using. Violence with animals is almost always associated with other violence. This person is VIOLENT period. This isn't about Karma or anything else. It is a thermometer that tells us we have failed as a society. No one is caring for kids anymore. They are baby sat with videos, fed violence on TV and shown little real love by their parents. They are growing up without values which have become unfashionable. Well - this is the fashion now isn't it ? How do you like the fit ?

Who cares about turkeys? 100 dead turkeys, 100 families well fed. Let's have a big turkey feast!

BC has some strange people. Was it yesterday or the day before where a guy shot a family dog for little apparent reason...now we have some latent clifford olsen slashing turkeys. Then of course we have those who go out and shoot bears for their gall bladders. Is it the salt air? And to Ann Gregg, this has everything to do with animal rights. I do agree with your statement that the person is violent...that is a no brainer.

Maybe Ann Gregg can fix the world for us. To survive in this modern world BOTH parents need to work, and at that we barely scrape by. No time left for any extras. You sound like you lead a priviledged life. Lucky you. By the way, mentally ill people are all over our streets and what have the politicians done? Or you for that matter? Only complaints.

Maybe, after a few hundred turkeys, he'll get bored and want to step up his game. Maybe hogs next. What do psychos do when they get bored slaughtering pigs? This is the time to take these people and put them away in a nice padded room.

This is a horrible act of cruelty. But then so is factory farming. Also to NOBODY, get your facts straight. You are obviously misinformed. I doubt this is done by any kind of activist group, being an advocate for animals myself, this is hardly the kind of thing that animal activists do. We are into saving animals, not mutilating and killing them. I'll bet you have no qualms about someone else doing the dirty work for you and butchering a turkey for your thanksgiving dinner.

This psycho is probably going to end of taking a human life............doesn't that make your skin crawl? This is the beginning of the step of to 1 person...........so save the 100 turkeys and most likely save a life. This person is beyond help, lock him (them? scary thought.) up for ever and get him out of society.

Yes, this was a horrible act. But stop worrying about the silly turkeys and realize that there is a sick psychopath loose in Langley: one who does not value life or property. I'd be more worried about who or what was going to be mutilated and killed NEXT!
