Fidgety females tickled pink over National Diddling Day


A little tweak of a quirk in the Japanese language makes July 21 National Diddling Day, proclaims Flash (8/2).

Japanese permits the date "0721" for July 21 to be read as o-na-ni-i.

By coincidence, this pronunciation is almost identical to onani, a derivative of Onanism, which just about any good student of the Bible would be able to tell is the polite way to refer to, well, self-flagellation.

To mark the occasion, the men's pictorial probed 30 women working for adult video companies to discover what it takes to get them beating around the bush.

A vast majority -- 25 of the 30 -- surveyed claimed to have started tickling their fancies from their elementary school days. Triggers were many and varied.

"My parents bought me a desk to study on and I discovered that when I put my legs around its corner, I was left with a strangely wonderful feeling," a 33-year-old woman recalls for Flash.

A 21-year-old woman says her experience started by having gotten into her mother's drawers.

"While cleaning out my mom's stuff, I came across a Western porno magazine without any mosaic. There was one set of photos where a woman looked like she was masturbating, and I just sort of eventually copied her," the woman says.

Of the remaining respondents, four began buffing their beads from junior high school, while the final woman saved up for a special occasion.

"I waited to start until my 20th birthday," she says, paying homage to the age at which Japanese legally become adults.

Women were divided almost evenly about what they fantasized over when hitting the spot. Many turned to memories of wonderful past lovers or steamy sessions of yore. About the same number, however, tended to use their imaginations. One woman had a tendency to come out of left field.

"It's porno novels. When I see all those complicated kanji with lots of brush strokes, it turns me on like nothing else," the 33-year-old tells Flash.

Going solo also had a number of meanings for the fiddling females, ranging from the mundane to the profound.

"It's the ultimate way of using up spare time," opines a 26-year-old woman.

Others found it to be a habit, or custom. For one woman, a 23-year-old, stoking the furnace has a much deeper effect.

"It's soothing and takes away all the stress built up during the day," she tells Flash. "It's a perfect soporific." (By Ryann Connell)
