Hiropon: So, if you've never gone on a date with a woman of foreign origin how did you come to that conclusion about them being "Americanized"? And, are we to understand that you prefer woman with low self-esteem? Nice.

Inoki: Most of the world has black hair darling so it's really not all that exotic, although I'm not saying it's not nice. What does "look for a single male in romance" mean? Single as in not married or single as in only wanting to date one man? Ambiguous answer or just a bad translation? And you know what happens when you assume, don't you?

Quest Love: Yes never! That's why most every department store has a floor devoted to "large women's clothing" because not a single Japanese women has ever been overweight it's just all the fat, American tourists buying it. On the flip-side, Japan is considered to be 2nd in the world in eating disorders, anorexia and bulimia. I'm pretty sure that would either be considered control run amok or no control at all.

My point is not that Japanese women are without their charms. They certainly have them as do women from all countries. Different charms appeal to different people. Horses for courses as they say. But why denegrate other nationalities when discussing the good points of yours? That doesn't strike me as very charming at all.

Stay away from those women "who have high self-esteem."
Better to go for those easily controlled and manipulated ones who will do whatever you tell them to do, when you tell them to do it. And besides, you wouldn't want to have an intelligent conversation with a woman who might actually have her own opinion on something. (Sarcasm)
Pretty scary that that kind of opinion is expressed by an 18 year-old guy, in the year 2006.

David, is it fair to day you don't live here?. I spend a LOT of time, probably too much, looking at Japanese women. I can tell you for a fact that the current generation has produced a surprising number of not only very curvy but in some cases almost freakishly accentuated figures. Just today I was at a conference in near Shinagawa Seaside station and I was walking behind yet another girl with wide, wide, sharp shoulders, waspish waist and full, swishing hips. Shoulders, waist, hips, shoulders, waist, hips - the classic three points of an "hourglass figure" - and Tokyo is full of them.

I am quite glad ms. Chibana has been praised on her intelligence and sharpness of mind. That could encourage younger girls that are shunned in Japanese society if they appear to be sharp of mind.

That's an evergoing topic everywhere in the world. If "gaijin" women were so ugly, Western art wouldn't have Picasso, Neruda, Shakespeare, Rodin, Beethoven and a longer list. I do agree that the trend of ripping off the laurels from Western women to try them on Japanese women is unfair and ridiculous.

As for curvier women in the land of stylized, willowy kimono beauty, it might answer to several facts: breeding with foreign element, hormones in the food (traditional Japanese food was never bad, so argueing modern food is better is demeaning, I think), and the art of lingerie. Lingerie can add sizes, tuck and nip. Look at Japanese female swimming champions in bathing suits. They'd look perfect in a stilyzing kimono - the traditional garments of any given country are fitfully designed to praise and enhance the beauty of the local women. Look at Thai's exposed mid-driffs, Latinamerican waist-cinching skirts, German bustiers and Spaniard flamenco dresses (just to name a few). I don't think willowy is ugly... but obviously modern Japanese girls wish for and try to enhace and show a more hourglassy silhouette.

Once again this turns into American women vs. Japanese Women. Each has their pros and cons..you can't speak for a whole country. I can only speak for myself.. I'm not loud nor a fat American I don't have a truck drivers mouth I can hold a good conversation without being your stereotypical agressive business women,and no I don't wear socks with my flip flops either. Then of course you get married and it's the taming of the shrew. Seen it dozens of times in Japan.

I guess the Japanese equivalent of the german bustier is the padded bra?

Personally I can't get past the totally vacant look in Japanese girls (dare we call them women?) which is usually matched by equally vacant personalities when they open their mouths.

Since America is made up of many different immigrants throught the centuries, any girl born and bred in the U.S.A. are American. It doesn't matter your family heritage. That was a diluting remark you made. I am sick of western guys selling out their own Country's gals for exotic women from the Far East.

Japan isn't made up of perfect women. Many of them selfish and complex mind. Full of artificiality and selfish. Where Americans might be fat, Japanese teeth are horrendous. What an incredibly superficial take on the whole subject, yes, the Miss pretty body contest is superficial but when we get down to talking about the women of entire countries do we really need to use their rules to judge?

Really there is almost no answer to this, if you have ever lived in a truly cosmopolitan city you will have almost daily come across drop dead beautiful women & never once will you ever question what nationality they are, they are what you see them as. Just remember what they say beauty is skin deep & sometimes these little puppies bite because they are smart enough to know when to bite. We will talk about my scars some other time.

Ok people, for once, stop taking the accounts written above OUT OF CONTEXT. Note that many of those J dudes above probably don't speak PERFECT ENGLISH because they are JAPANESE NATIVES.

Appearance...it is ALL RELATIVE! We cannot deny that there is a certain amount of exoticisim that gaijin men tend to find in Japanese women. Fair enough? Am I being biased, or am I just being objective? A lot of that exoticism is associated with the "dragon lady" "soft lotus" image of Japanese women found in terribly acted out and directed movies such as "Geisha" and "The Last Samurai." Literature majors would know perfectly well what I am talking about when I in short terms say those movies and other forms of American cultural art are no more than ways to preserve the American fantasy about the far east...the exotic orient...

Now to get to my $.02. People are arguing (with good reason) that the gaijins are ironically arguing about the "Japanese superiority" of Japanese women. I myself find this to be rather funny...

But personally, in the end, it is all PREFERENCE. As an Asian American, I agree that there IS a difference in terms of cultural behaviors found in white women and Asian American women (well, usually the 1st and 2nd generation that is).

Believe me...no woman is SUPERIOR in appearance or behavior. I have noticed that the stereotypical Asian woman is shy and lacking in strength (not talking about physical). Yes, I know that stereotypes are just stereotypes...but from personal experience, I have found much of it to be true. To be honest, I find these attributes to be really annoying, and just not too attractive. In addition to that, the J-dudes were right about one thing: Asian American women are becoming Americanized too. Increasingly, I've found that they're no different from white women, which is why it's getting even harder to find an Asian woman with whom I can share my cultural familiarity. But nevertheless...I still like my Asian women. =-) My sense of cultural familiarity with them constitutes part of my attraction to them.

Now the stereotypical white woman...I have a hard time disagreeing with the J-men's comments above. Yes, they tend to be a bit overconcerned with asserting their "independence" and "power." No, I am not saying that independence and power are an exclusive right of men. With most white woman, it's pretty clear they're just like any other people in general...they live their lives well, finding ways to amuse themselves.

But...there is always a small minority among them who are clearly out to show that they are STRONG, and that they aren't the "delicate little flower girls" who need to be submissive to men (remember the perception of the attractive female back in the 50s? They were often the weak helpless type. Lacking independence). Believe me. It gets really annoying when they compete with you...and (this is just based on what I've heard from friends) it can get pretty bad in marriage when they're literally out to compete with you in EVERYTHING (e.g. job, income, etc).

So my conclusion? Women of ALL RACES have problems. There IS NO beautiful It doesn't make sense to call Japanese women "the sexiest women alive" or to consider Asian women because you have some pisspoor uneducated image of Asian American women as being exotic orients with strong sex drives (moderator, I am not being off topic because some SWMs seem to believe this myth. You should know well what people like Lad have been saying with their nasty comments). That's a no-no.

Anomoly-Jr: Thanks for the concern but I'm not confused about large-sized clothing for Japanese women and I don't think David is confused about the buttocks and hips. If you haven't ever, I suggest you take a long visit to a department store where you'll find not only large-size clothing but loads of "accessories" to make one's butt or hips appear larger. They are Huge sellers in Japan (no pun intended) due to the influence of western models and hip hop, where larger buttocks and hips are considered sexy. Japanese women simply don't -for the most part- have very round butts. That's not meant as an insult, it just is. As for curvy women, I don't know what your definition of curvy is but most of the women I see fall into four categories, anorexic or just malnourished, boxy-middle-aged, healthy but not curvy, and barrel-chested fat. I'm sure I'll incur the wrath of all Japanese loving men out there but I'll say it anyway, when Japanese women gain weight they tend to do so in the most unattractive manner, all in the upper body so they look like barrels. You see little of the spread-the-wealth-around kind of gain like with black or caucasian women.

i think it was kurt vonnegut who wrote, "there is something that just makes life more interesting when you are surrounded by beautiful women" he sure is right!

in japan it seems that girls who are:
skinny, frail, generally ignorant, passive, submissive, desiring to be lead and not to lead, and who strive to look young (sorry 50 year old lady on the train, a mickey mouse agenda does not make you cute, its OVER)
are considered beautiful.

in the west (which i say because "America" is too ambiguous), people tend to like girls who are:
properly proportioned, can at least carry themselves in conversation, can stand for themselves, and who try to look sophisticated (watch american idol with japanese and they think the girls are all in their 30s simply because they do not try to look like dinner for some lecher salaryman)

in both cases, it is rare to find women who perfectly exemplify either standard.

most common problem i have with girls here is their teeth, knees, legs (in proportion to the rest of their body), inability to walk in heels (they sound like kids who have never worn heals ever!), inability to carry on a conversation (generally speaking), and overall lack of knowledge about the world (history, politics, linguistics...if you know ANYTHING you are "sugoi" "kashikoi" "atama ii", etc).

in the west (especially the US), many girls have expectations of being treated as equals but get offended when you fail to do certain chivalrous things, are often overweight/fat, have a greatly disproportionate sense of importance (as though they are god's gift to the universe).

i happened to go to school with this girl, and if she were european her language skills would be good but barely above average, and her figure would be nothing to write home about.

as a japanese i would say that she is probably above average in the things that they do not seem to value too highly here, which explains why she might have been viewed in such favour by the judges (who i assume were disproportinately Western).

fyi her french is not very good, and her skin is already looking like shes in her 30s.

sekaijin, I think you pretty much summed up really well a lot of my sentiments.

I'm personally TRYING to get out of the whole appearance factor...and if I'm not wrong, I have a very intelligent friend who seems to actually be doing that too. He used to be really superficial, appearance-oriented. Used to always disagree with me when I would tell him that prettiness/hotness isn't all THAT important. Now he can't say to the contrary.

When it all comes down to it, I don't care whether my woman can make Miss Universe. Sure, I'd like her to be pretty or cute. But what I liked about Kurara Chibana was her DEMEANOR. Appearancewise, she was a bit cute albeit her typical Asian woman look...perhaps exotic to the westerner? But I don't know...unlike the other contestants, she seemed much better composed. The way she moved across the floor...it looked REAL. Other contestants seemed like they had been rehearsing the walk down the stage since FOREVER. Too forced! Chibana didn't seem to have an issue with walking across the stage while holding her skirt rather informally.

Plus, she seemed a tad bit shy. I don't find shy HOT, but I find authenticity to be attractive. Also, you can't deny that being fluent in 4 languages is kinda hot, hehheh. Makes you wanna go up to her and ask her to "talk sexy to me" in French the way girls in the US fantasize about French guys talking to them.

Was walking behind a lovely young girl this morning. Very petite in this case, nice figure, but an exquisite waist. Just hypnotic watching the lower half of her body pivot and sway around that lovely waist. Why do I seem to obsess about a waist? because they are an endangered attribute in the West.

Sorry but the bottom line is that there are many many more girls here that I class as "outstanding" than back home. And yes, I'm talking about a purely visual phenomenon.

Wrong again. This is the only handle I've ever used.

And no need to apologize for having different taste. I'm neither jealous of nor uncomfortable with the fact that a lot of western guys here like Japanese women. That's fine and dandy with me. As I've said before, there's plenty to like most anywhere you go. I'm with a man who is neither Japanese nor Western and loves me the way I am. If you've come here and found what you like and the woman/women you've found appreciate qualities about you that perhaps weren't appreciated at home, good for you. I mean that with all sincerity.

The only thing that bothers me is when these guys, and I'm only talking about you if you think I am, feel the need to bash Western women. You rarely read posts from Western women here bashing Western men for being overweight, pasty-faced, full of themselves, self-important, prone to telling people "how it is", badly dressed, loutish, laddish and unambitious unless it's to find the nearest drink.

And to suggest that all Western women are overweight is ludicrious to the point of being stupid. I would say it doesn't bear commenting upon but after having read the same nonsense over and over again, one does get a bit tired of it. Perhaps if the only women you met at home were overweight and less than "outstanding" that means the slimmer, beautiful ones just wouldn't give you the time of day.

Anyways I don't really think this is debatable at all. Some like J-women some don't. It's that simple. If you don't like them thats fine, if you like them fine also. NO matter what race some people prefer full figured women, some don't. I know what I like and basically thats all that really matters.

Also, I think one of the myths/stereotypes prevalent is the relative "easiness" of J-women. Again I have not found much difference in NY LA HK or Singapore, not race dependent. I think being from a foreign country helps guys anywhere because sometimes the fact that they are "foreign" and somewhat different mitigates their inherent dweebiness.

Settle down man, we aren't all uneducated yobs here, you know. Nor I am sure, poorly travelled. While this forum is a faint shadow of it's former glory I think you will find that even among the current posters there are many at least as well travelled as you. The point is, we are living here NOW.

I am also not talking about how hard/easy is it to "get" Japanese women. Your comments are about as accurate as the average J-guy's concept of how easy SWF's are.

Some of the most worst ears I have ever seen in my life. Most would make Spock proud. I use to think it was the men, wrestling sorts, and pointed it out to some J-buds, who said most Japanese had weird ears, including gals. Hell, some here put Quark to shame.
Maybe it's just me.

Urko, it's got nothing to do with full figured or not. I dated plenty of Japanese (and Asian) American women and loved them. Even married one in the end. I'm talking about what's going on between those apparently pointed ears of Japanese-Japanese women that makes their gaijin boyfriends suddenly start thinking all white women (except their mothers and sisters of cource) are somehow overweight monsters who only talk about their work (god forbid). Their is a class of gaijin male in Japan, sadly the vaste majority of them, who become like this. They are truly pathetic.

And yes, it is easy to get a Japanese wife, that's simply indisputable. Any gaijin clown can get a moderately decent looking girlfirned here in a matter of days if not hoursjust look at english teachers. Again, I rarely see any gaijins, except the odd banker in japan, with decent looking Japanese women, though, most get the mugs.

My best friend here in Japan is an English teacher and his wife is unbelieveably hot. Also, she is funny and intelligent. And she's never lived outside Japan. You are getting angry about a certain group of gaijin males who attack Western women in favor of Japanese women. David Stephenson, my point was that some people make the choice to live and marry in a place, because that is where they want to be. Some do it out of desparation, others by a concious clear decision. I believe that many Westerners, men and women, do come here looking for an easy life, both financially and romantically. Others come out of an interest for the place and happen to fall in love with the right person and decide to stay. Speaking as one who falls into the "overweight western woman" category, I don't really think it's terribly fair to dismiss all western women as overweight, ball-breaking and career-obsessed, nor to classify all Japanese women as bimbos with nothing between their ears. Nor even to classify all native-speaker English teachers as only interested in pulling Japanese girls. Let's face it, all you're talking about here is stereotypes. Inevitably, there are people (yes, women are people too, not objects - it's getting a bit meat-market-ish in here for my liking) who conform to those stereotypes and those who don't. The most beautiful woman I've seen here in Japan (indeed, the most beautiful woman I've ever met in my life) is a Russian friend of mine. She started going out with a British friend of mine who was working as an English teacher, and they married earlier this year.

I'm not sure that it's possible to conduct a discussion on "the charms of Japanese women" without objectifying them, but surely it must be possible to do so without dissing women from every other country on the planet?

She is lovely. Japanese women have a lot to offer. I have found that compared to other women from around the world they tend to be more affectionate, caring, kind, and polite. They are also beautiful with their soulful eyes, dark hair, and generally fit bodies. They hold a lot inside of them that they only show to those they love or trust. It's kind of exciting to find a woman that does not need to show everything to everyone. That is what I think is part of the charm of Japanese women. That does not mean that I don't think their are tons of charming women from around the world. I just feel they have different kinds of charms.

I am 170cm and 60kg (which means about 5'7" and 132 pounds). I am not overweight. Even a girl a few inches shorter than me and still at 60kg is hardly a "beached whale" (lovely vocabulary, by the way, did you develop it all by yourself?) I am from North America but do not spit whilst in the street, trim my toenails in public, or urinate in alleys, nor did I learn any of my other manners in a zoo. I also chew my food with my mouth closed and have a respectable wardrobe. And even though you think it unimportant, I am intelligent and have an opinion when engaged in conversation but refuse to argue with idiots. I would say personally, that that is the number one reason why men the world over desire to visit japan, to explore the women, errr, I mean, explore the "culture" of japan. It goes back to the days of commodore perry, but this fascination with japanese women really began in earnest post world war 2, with G.I.'s taking japanese women as their war brides. Movies like 'Sayonara' perpetuated the myth of the subservient and loyal, not to mention exotic, japanese female who are easy prey to the charms of males. And that image still persists to this day in one shape or another.

And the most amusing thing of all is that a lot of the guys who piss and moan about the horrors of "liberated" Western woman fail to realize that more often than not, the Japanese woman who date them do so because they want the very thing that they think the "liberated" Western women are getting; a guy who helps out in the house and with the kids, who'll remember her birthday, do things with her outside the house and respect and value her opinion.

Perhaps you misunderstand the meaning of the word "diss", - diss" being short for disrespect which is the opposite of respect. Is there some reason you think it's respectful to generalize Japanese women as being shopping addicted airheads and western women as confrontational? Perhaps you're friends are simply a better reflection of you than you'd like to think.

You have a guy who admittedly has not even dated a J-girl spouting off about how they think.

You have so many stereotypes being flung about its getting silly.

In the end you like something or you don't. You like some people or you don't. Sometimes you date people who are outspoken and intelligent, sometimes you don't, sometimes just for looks. But in the end its all up to the individual.

But I think its pretty silly to peg people by race or nationality or whatever.

I know this positive assertion will stir up those who feel being Japnese is the epitome, yet I will only say it once and have no more to say on this subject.

Kurara Chibana is a Ryukyuan and like all Ryukyuan women they possess femininity like no other women on the face of this earth. It is not only that Ryukyuan women are blessed with beauty, butthey have also been brought up with grace and they have a graciousness I have yet to see in any other woman - even in the Japan. They are also the hardest workers I have ever met

I know as I am married to one and I thank the Lord every day for my great fortune - finding a wife who I love more every day and we have been married for forty years - i never want it to end!

As I sit here waiting for my printout to complete, Ill give a different take on this. There are actually quite a number of attractive, thin, Western women here in Japan. They are all over my neighborhood. They are the ex-pat spouses. They are on the international school mommy track, driving their terrorist-supporting SUVs the 5 minutes it takes to take the children to and from school. They are quite full of themselves and cannot seem to talk about anything outside of their husbands's jobs. So if that is what one is looking for, feel free. There are also many of the unbelievably tall and thin foreign models around town, but they all seem much too young.

The thing I miss the most in living such a long time in Asia is talking with the common-sense, intelligent, experienced Western woman. There is nothing like having a conversation when you do not have to trim your vocabulary usage back to bare minimum and do not have to explain every allusion that you make. Some of the very nicest people I have met here (are Japanese people nice or just extremely polite?) are Western women who happened to also be on the far side of 60 kilos. One lady up the street adopted two foreign children while here, another runs a daycare center, another runs things at a church. So I agree with whoever said earlier it is time to get real; while it is fun to have a wild period with the locals, after a bit, a good conversation with a equal beats all.

Although Stephenson spouted this hackneyed slur, it is much more generally heard coming from Japanese males, annoyed with foreign (white and black men especially) dating and/or marrying Japanese women.

My response to it, logically, is totally truthful, and when one takes time to think of it objectively, and that includes the Japanese males who make the slur, easy to agree with.

"99% of the Japanese men I see in Japan are married to or date very plain, bland, usually not particularly attractive Japanese women."

It is a matter of perception, isn't it? The ignorant Stephenson and the irritated Japanese men don't notice or evaluate what the physical attributes are of the women who accompany Japanese men. Because they don't stand out for anecdotal stereotyping like the Westerner and the Japanese couple do.

But by her very nature, the truly beautiful "hot" etc. Japanese woman makes up less than 1% of the Japanese female population.

Ipso facto, Japanese men overwhelmingly date and marry the plain Janes.

The only reasonable comments by the people above (I mean, the Japanese interviewed) were made by Hayato and Seven Star. As the old saying goes, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder". I personally believe that Asian women in general are beautiful, but that's my opinion. When I travel in Asia I tend to compare the women I see to Japanese women in terms of style, grace, natural beauty etc. Comments like 'Japanese women's charm is in their silky black exotic hair' are ludicrous because you would be pretty hard pressed to find one who does not dye or colour their hair to some extent, and any friend I know who does not is often asked if she is Chinese. To make personality assessments in the form of blanket generalizations is also silly.

A poster above was absolutely correct when he said that there are beautiful women in America (I'll extend that to every country in the world), and in Japan. Again, I personally prefer Asians, but a beauty is a beauty, and if we all had the same taste life would be pretty dull.

I'll agree that there are fantastic women all over the world. As for the Japanese variety - yep, they're amongst the hottest. As for thier habits, well, one of the reasons I like my girlfriend so much is that she isn't a "typical" Japanese girl.

It's been about a year and a half since I left Japan... have traveled all around the world since then, and have found that nowhere that I have visited has there been such banter and debate on Japanese vs. American women. Why is this so?
Actually, my biggest question is this... If American women are so (fill in with your own pitiful adjective..) are American men not? Every day, I see boorish, fat, gross, over-spoken American men. Do I care? Not really. Do I tell myself, "Oh Gawl... I wish I could have a hot Argentine man on my arm and show THESE guys who's hot??" NO!! It's absurd! Why? Because comparing diverse cultures for what they're not is impractical.
And I just gush my love for comparing Japanese women and American women. Why is it American women and not Canadian? or Mexican? or Spanish? or Norwegian? or Latvian? or Bangladeshi? or Isreali? Try it sometime.
And to those who DO this... I think you're stuck in a bubble. There are more important things in life than comparing your Japanese girlfriend/wife, with your former gaijin girlfriend/wife/etc.
Like poverty? Peace? Starving people?

What? Japanese women have "dark, silky hair" and they are "reserved"? Most of the J-women I see have brownish red hair and dress provokatively. I personally don't see Japanese respecting their own culture.

People in this forum are infatuated with J-culture that they become so blind that they do not see the flaw. It's a form of inferiority complex, trying to prove that Japanese culture is much superior than the American culture. But what's also contradicting is that 99.9% of Japanese population love the American culture. I see Disneyland, Universal Studios in Japan, but I don't see Japanese attractions exist in US. So what's this bashing about Americans? I don't see any of us dye our hair to black, but I do see a lot of J-women who want to either look white or bi-racial.

What hypocrisy.

I didn't know J-women were used as marketing tools by Japan so foreigners would fall in love with the Japanese culture. That indeed, is very sad.

I don't know about the Korean and the Chinese girls copy the Japanese girls. But if they were to copy, what is there that's so admiring and worthy of copying? I DO know that the Japanese are known for copying everything entirely from another culture. Aren't you contradicting yourself by saying that Korean and Chinese girls copy the Japanese? Japan derived its language and culture from the Chinese and Korean. How can you prove that the Korean and Chinese girls copy the looks of a Japanese girl? So are you saying that the Korean and Chinese come up with similiar fashion and looks as the Japanese are indeed, a crime?

Ironically enough, many of my Korean and Chinese female friends DON'T do anything to "copy" the Japanese look. They highly respect their own culture that they don't need to look "different" like the Japanese girls. What is "the Japanese look" anyways that you are refering to? The emphasis on "bi-racial" look, you mean? Young Japanese women copy the American look. They tone down their hair color, looking reddish brown, and undergo cosmetic surgery to make their eyes look bigger. What for? To look less like a typical Japanese? That isn't right. I hope the Japanese girls respect their own culture.

Or just watch some of the popular TV shows you will see what I mean. and you mention cosmetic surgery? sure they do it in Japan but its the big big thing in Korea now.

In the end, like I said I don't care where a woman is from, if I find her attractive visually, mentally, emotionally, thats good enough. No need to bring nationalism or racism into things.

they are and the Korean and Chinese women buy a lot of it. I still don't understand your problem with Japanese in particular. North Asians (Japanese, Korean,Chinese) look very very similar. But as I said before it is Japanese fashion that dominates. Have a look around Seoul, Beijing or Shanghai. You will notice a lot of posters featuring Japanese models as well as local models and vice versa.

Like the Chiba incident, the "water business," the name given to the free-flowing world of Japanese adult entertainment, is apparently rife with women bullying girls.

"We had this girl called Mayumi at our club. She'd only started in the business, but she was too big for her boots. She kept swooping in on other girls' regulars and everybody started to hate her," Kazuyo, a cabaret club hostess, tells Shukan Taishu, adding that the hostesses responded one night by ganging up on Mayumi to take turns beating her about the face and practicing their flying kicks on her. Finally, she was forced to use a tool to masturbate in front of the group.

"One of the girls would bark out orders for how she'd use the tool. They used Mayumi's mobile phone to take a picture of her, which they sent to all the guys they knew, along with a message saying Mayumi was quitting," the hostess says.

Even department stores, known for their sublime service, can witness some horrific displays of female bullying. Hiroko, was forced to flee in tears after her department store co-workers cornered her in the back of a store and began pelting her with leftover tofu and vegetables.

"They threw all the 10 or so packets of tofu or vegetables that had been left over, then ripped her clothes off and held her with her arms behind her back," Wako, a witness to the attack, tells Shukan Shincho. "They started playing what they called 'human darts.' The girls used the tips of ballpoint pens and threw them at Hiroko as hard as they could. It was 10 points if they hit her face, 20 if they got her boobs and 30 for between her legs."

Sachiyo, a 28-year-old IT-company employee, was assailed by a gaggle of schoolgirls on the streets of Shibuya, Tokyo's teen Mecca.

"I'd just been to a company party, so I was pretty drunk. I was walking along Dogenzaka (a street in Shibuya), singing at the top of my voice, when, all of a sudden, I was surrounded by all these schoolgirls about 15 or 16-years-old and calling me an old hag. One of them said they should execute me, so they dragged me to a dark corner and started waving a handgun around in front of my face. Luckily, it was only a BB gun, but they were all standing around laughing as they fired shot after shot into my face," Sachiyo tells Shukan Taishu. "I summoned all my strength and started screaming for help and for the police. They called me a hag again and ran off. I was so scared."

TOKYO - Japans Princess Kiko gave birth to a boy early Wednesday, providing the centuries-old Chrysanthemum Throne with its first male heir in more than 40 years, the palace announced.

The birth came about an hour after Kiko, 39, was reported to have undergone a Caesarean section. The boy is the third in line to the throne, after Crown Prince Naruhito and Kikos husband, Prince Akishino.

The arrival of a royal boy forestalled a looming succession crisis for the royal family. Japans 1947 succession law allows only males to ascend the throne, and prior to Wednesday Naruhito and Akishino were the only royals eligible for the crown.

The boy, the first male heir born in Japan since Akishino in 1965, was born at 8:27 a.m. and weighed 5.64 pounds, the Imperial Household Agency said. Kyodo News agency reported mother and child were in good condition.

Kiko, who already had two daughters, was hospitalized on Aug. 16 after showing symptoms of partial placenta previa, in which part of the placenta drops too low in the uterus.
The gender of the baby had been a closely guarded palace secret, though Japanese tabloids speculated the child will be a boy.

No male heir since 1965
The last potential male heir born was Akishino himself, in 1965. Emperor Akihitos eldest son, Naruhito, has a daughter with his wife Masako, but the couple have no sons, meaning there is no one to inherit the throne after he and his brother. Kiko, likewise, had no sons.


The looming succession crunch had prompted serious discussion of changing the law to allow a female to assume the throne. The proposal had the support of Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi and a majority of the public.
Even before the 1947 law, reigning empresses were rare, usually serving as stand-ins for a few years until a suitable male can be installed. The last reigning empress was Gosakuramachi, who assumed the throne in 1763.
Debate over the succession law was divisive and emotional. Some conservatives proposed a revival of concubines to produce imperial heirs, and others argued that allowing a woman on the throne would destroy a precious Japanese tradition.

News of Kikos pregnancy and the possibility of a male heir in February quickly put an end to the discussions.
Spillover impact on economy

All the attention on Princess Kiko has had a spin-off effect on the economy. Shares of baby and maternity product makers shot up in February after Kikos pregnancy announcement, and they have climbed steadily since the palace announced the delivery would take place in early September.

Stock prices of Pigeon Corp., Japans largest maternity and baby products maker, have risen more than 35 percent since the beginning of the year and closed at an all-time high of $17.80 per share Monday before dipping slightly on Tuesday.
The birth of Princess Kikos baby is definitely good news for our industry, said Pigeon spokeswoman Yuko Arikawa. We are hoping that the royal baby would encourage young couples to have their own children as well.

The heightened baby talk comes as Japan is consumed by debate over how to remedy the countrys slumping birthrate. Japanese women now have a record-low average of 1.25 babies in their lifetime, and the population started dropping for the first time last year. Many fear the trend will lead to labor shortages, a damaged economy and failing pension and health care systems.

They may only be taking the piss, but urologists are complaining about being plagued by an increasing number of embarrassing incidents related to, well, the parts of the body they normally have to deal with, according to Weekly Playboy (9/1 .

It's not just schoolgirls who are creating problems for urologists. One young man created havoc when he sought help for a case of genital herpes. A young, female nurse was entrusted with the job of applying ointment to his affected part, but was soon rushing to the urologist for assistance.
"I was baffled," the urologist says. "She was screaming out, 'Doctor, the patient's member has turned black and it's standing up like a rocket.' I went in to have a look and quickly realized the 'problem' was nothing more than the patient enjoying the treatment he was receiving a bit too much."
The urologist says he sought to reassure his nurse and told her: "That's only an erection."

"She told me, 'I know that. It's just I've never seen one that big before,'" the urologist says. "My face turned bright red."

Also causing a kerfuffle is the increasing number of patients seeking prostate massages. Go to a urologist and the massage is covered by health insurance, reducing its cost to a few hundred yen; a mere fraction of what they would have to pay for the same treatment if sought through a professional sex service, where prostate massages are currently popular options on many courses.

One urologist says that he thought many of the young men were visiting his clinic to have a young nurse to administer their prostate massages for thrills, but he was shocked to learn that most of them were actually hoping he'd be the one putting the rubber gloves on.

"It's because there are so few professional sex services for homosexual men. And it's only really urologists and those treating venereal diseases who offer treatment on the sphincter," the urologist tells Weekly Playboy. "Some patients develop a real liking for prostate massages, but I put on the gloves and make sure I let them have it so rough they won't ever want to come back for more. But even after I've really given it to them, they still keep coming back for more."

Also in that neck of the woods was one man who complained of, well, a pain in the ass that resulted from that patient's chosen form of self-pleasure.
"I was shocked when I had a look through the rectal camera," a urologist says. "There were traces of wax all through his bowels, and then I found a candle wick."

At the other end of town, so to speak, are those into do-it-yourself circumcision, a procedure that initially seems attractive compared to the option of forking out the considerable sums cosmetic surgeons charge to do it, but often not working out as planned, as one high school boy discovered to his chagrin.

"I realize high school boys don't have much cash on them, but going that far to save a bit of money is overdoing it. This quiet, serious kid walked into my clinic with the lower half of his body drenched in blood. Naturally, he'd turned pale," a urologist tells Weekly Playboy, adding that the lad had tried to lop off the extra bit on the top by stretching it out and hacking into it with a knife of the type usually used in handicrafts. "I told him that he had to go to a hospital to undergo the sort of procedure he'd been seeking. Apparently, blood had spurted out everywhere. It wouldn't have been so bad if this kid was the only one I had to treat after such an incident. But he was just one of several who'd done pretty much exactly the same thing." (By Ryann Connell)
