Gary Walther wrote in Travel+Life Magazine: P. Corthay, at 1, rue Volney, is Paris’ great cobbling anachronism. This is no atelier: The rooms are dingy and cramped, and the three shoemakers only speak French—and usually while holding tacks in the corner of their mouth. Except for the electricity, the place seems right out of the 19th century. But the shoes are Astaire-elegant, with beautifully curved instep quarters. Of course they cost a king’s ransom for the first pair since it involves making a last. I’ve only gone here to watch the process, but when my ship comes in, I’ll be back.
