Porno stud explodes into gals' hearts

If the typically staid old men get peeved watching young women put on their make-up while riding on the train, they're going to be in for a real shock to hear the latest hot trend among Japan's fad-fetish femmes -- porno movies. And, according to Shukan Shincho (11/7), the explosive popularity of the below-the-belt genre is largely thanks to one man -- Yoshiya Minami.
"Ahh...Yoshiya Minami," muses Haruo Igari, a writer on the ejaculation industry. "He's a hot-selling young porno actor who never fails to provide a series of wonderful sex scenes with every job. For some reason, he's extraordinarily popular among women and has become something of a mainstream star. Gays love him, too. From now on, he won't limit himself just to stick flicks, but is expected to bloom on the small screen as well. He's been marked down as a male Iijima Ai, the porno starlet who has become an incredibly fashionable conventional performer."

Indeed, the heartthrob who throbs in other areas as well has already secured a regular role on TV, hosting a corner on a late-night show for Fuji TV. And Minami photospreads have become a fixture even in men's magazines, making it likely a beefcake book filled with photos of the hunk hustler can't be too far away.

While some find it amazing that a guy coming from a field that women usually shun, the girls have no qualms about what it is in Minami they find attractive.

"He's 180 centimeters tall, with a 90-centimeter inside leg and a body that's amazing. His face isn't too bad either. He looks thin, but he's actually all muscle that makes him look like Adonis," a female office worker in her 20s gushes to Shukan Shincho. "Once I discovered Minami, I forgot all about (heartthrob singer, actor and perennial gal favorite) Takuya Kimura."

But it's not just the young and easily influenced who have fallen under the spell cast by Minami's magic wand.

"I was watching (incest-themed porno movie) 'Giba-san! Mo Gaman Dekinai (Stepmom! I Can't Hold On Any Longer)' one night with my husband when I discovered Minami was the star. I was immediately smitten. Now, I go out and rent dirty movies on my own," a housewife in her late 30s tells Shukan Shincho. "What's good about him? I suppose it's because the gentle sex techniques he uses on women get me excited."

Minami Nagashima, the female porno director who discovered Minami, is not surprised at the success her protégé is now enjoying.

"Satellite TV finally made inroads into Japanese homes in 1999 and it has become a time to enjoy adult movies thanks to channels like (soft-porn oriented) Paradise TV, with its mostly housewife viewers," Nagashima says. "Women wanted an actor who was young, stylish and who painted a pretty picture to star in the dirty movies they watched. That's why Minami's rise has been so meteoritic."

Even though Minami has appeared to have popped up from nowhere, he has in fact made over 1,500 movies over the past five years and become a virtually guaranteed top selling performer over the past two years only. But now, in an industry where a hit is regarded as one that achieves sales of over 2,000 videos, Minami movies regularly top 3,000 and rental outlets and retailers are having a hard time keeping up with demand.

"Considering he's baring all for every performance, it's wonderful that he's become so popular among normal women," sex biz writer Igari tells Shukan Shincho. "The days when adult videos were for men only have long gone. American porn stars have been succeeding in a variety of fields for years. I'm delighted to see that the same thing is finally happening in Japan."
