Dinosaurs reared in freaky flesh flicks
By Ryann Connell | Staff Writer | January 7, 2005
Perched atop a fairly amateurish model tank made from cardboard, the shapely young woman wears a comical dinosaur mask - and nothing else!

Sounds like some sort of warped kiddies show, right? Wrong! In fact, this woman in the mask like Barney is making beds rock, and the filthy film she's appearing in will reach its climax as her male co-star makes her dinosaur mask glisten with the rubble from his flint stone.

The woman is, Spa! (1/11) notes, starring in "Kyoryu Sensha," what could probably be called a Dinosaur Tank fetish flick, one of the growing number of freaky flesh fads now sweeping through Japan.

"Fetish sites were already an established part of the Internet by the time it moved into household use in 1996, but it took until about 2000 before Net-based and online video sales really got into gear," cyberspace specialist Hiroshi Goto tells Spa! "Movies' contents have rapidly become increasingly outlandish and more widespread as more people get broadband connections."

Ken Higashiyama, operator of the Fetish Factory website, is making a living through online sales of videos catering to the most outrageous fetishes.

"I remember when I was still in elementary school how watching a cream-pie fight between a group of comics had made me incredibly aroused. Even at the time, I thought the feelings meant I must have been some sort of pervert. Once the Internet came along, though, I learned that I wasn't the only person turned on by cream pie fights and became aware that what I was feeling was a fetish," Higashiyama tells Spa! "At the time, you couldn't find the movies I wanted to see on regular adult video sites, so I started making my own flicks."

Apparently common among those who make their money selling flicks to those with a thing for the weird and the warped is the fact that most fetish flicks are home made jobs. A fetish movie maker fixated by ultra-close-up photographs of women explains.

"Say, for example, you catch a glimpse of a famous actress as she yawns and notice she's got a mouth full of fillings. You get the feeling that you've spotted some part of the woman she feels embarrassed by, or has an inferiority complex about. Just imagining that inferiority complex and how it developed is incredibly arousing," the site operator, identified only as Mr. M, says. "It's the same effect with ordinary women. If women feel ashamed or embarrassed by their poor teeth, they may get braces. They're prepared to silently put up with the pain and trouble of getting their teeth fixed because they think it will do something to help rid them of their complex. Knowing what they've gone through stirs Sadistic tendencies and inspires fetishes for braces."

Fetish moviemakers are apparently sitting on a veritable goldmine. Mitsukuni Thogo Saito, owner of the Fechi Meijin (Fetish Expert) site, says he makes about 20 million yen a year.

Net specialist journo Goto is not surprised at the claim.

"Nearly all the models in the movies are amateurs and will work for anywhere from 30,000 yen to 50,000 yen per flick. They're filmed in homes or love hotels and the actors and camera crews are all involved because it's a hobby, so they'll basically work for nothing. It's quite feasible to make a fetish movie for about 100,000 yen. Sell the movies for 5,000 yen each and you only need to flog 20 to make your money back, while selling 200 gives you a net profit of 19 million yen," the journalist tells Spa! "Don't forget, though, there are hidden costs involved. Fetish movies often require specialized props or clothing, then you need to spend money keeping websites updated and dealing with the administrative side of sales. There is a surprisingly large number of activities that require time and money. Nonetheless, most people are operating the sites as labors of love rather than trying to make their fortunes out of them."
