3G coverage is available only in certain markets. See coverage map. To provide the best network experience for all of our customers we may temporarily reduce data throughput for a small fraction of customers who use a disproportionate amount of bandwidth. Your data session, plan, or service may be suspended, terminated, or restricted for significant roaming or if you use your service in a way that interferes with our network or ability to provide quality service to other users. Some devices require specific data plans; if you do not have the right plan for your device, you may not be able to use data services. Additional charges may apply. Domestic use only.
T-Mobile 3G coverage available in 95 cities!
Many of the innovative applications and services on the G1™ have been optimized for T-Mobile’s high-speed 3G network or a Wi-Fi signal. Our 3G network is available now in many areas, and will be expanding rapidly over the coming months.
So what does this mean?
  • If you live in an area with 3G coverage (see list below) or have access to a Wi-Fi signal, G1 applications and services should work well for you.
  • Even if you don't live in an area with 3G, you can still enjoy many of the most popular functions of the G1 (see Don't live in a 3G area? below).

Don't live in a 3G area?
Our EDGE network offers moderate-speed data service, and many of the applications on the T-Mobile G1 work well on EDGE or 3G, including:
  • E-mail, instant messaging and texting.
  • Downloading ringtones, CallerTunes®, wallpaper, light data files.
  • Sending photographs via e-mail or picture messaging.
What activities work best on a 3G network?
  • Viewing content-heavy websites (lots of images or videos playing).
  • Viewing You Tube™ and other video files (they will play on EDGE, but require loading time).
  • Uploading large files (photos, videos, presentations) from your G1 to sharing websites.
  • Downloading large files from an e-mail or a website to your G1.
