Japan and China United in Pedophilia: the unlikely diplomacy of Saaya IrieMay 24th, 2005 by Adamu |
I had heard about this a few days ago but was originally too disgusted to report on it. The very existence of this girl as a sex object makes me question my whole involvement with Japanese society. It looks like, however, she is helping to quell anti-Japanese sentiment in China. Here’s the story:
Busty child reported to ease anti-Japan tension in ChinaBy GEOFF BOTTING
Shukan Bunshun (May 19)The wave of anti-Japanese sentiment in China continues, more than a month since the first round of demonstrations against the Japanese government’s approval of a controversial school textbook flared throughout the country. Diplomats and politicians on both sides have been trying to diffuse tensions in a flurry of meetings and shuttle diplomacy, but so far these methods have had only limited effect.
At this point, it might seem that a miracle is required to put bilateral relations fully back on track.
Saaya Irie, an 11-year-old Japanese girl, may not be that miracle, but she has clearly played a part in pacifying a certain segment of China’s population, according to Shukan Bunshun.
If anything about Saaya is miraculous, it’s her body—she wears an F-cup bra, though she has yet to reach her teens. So when a photo of her in a bikini was posted on a Chinese Internet forum called “100,” she immediately caused a sensation.
The pic was accompanied by message—rendered in mock Marxist rhetoric—reading: “An 11-year-old Japanese girl with large breasts has a proclamation for all Chinese people! Dear elder brothers, a beautiful young Japanese girl is beseeching you.
“Please stop these anti-Japanese hijinks. If you don’t, I won’t like you anymore.”
At the end of the message, she states that her breasts would “rise up” if the people “unite for the sake of China’s democracy.”
According to an anonymous source described as an Internet expert, the message and photo were posted by someone involved in www.2ch.net, a Japanese online forum.
Thanks, 2ch, for helping bridge the gap. Here’s how the poor girl reacted when confronted with the news:
So how does Saaya feel about all the commotion? A bit frightened, actually, an official at her talent agency says .“She had a worried look on her face and said, ‘I’m shocked. I wish they’d stop,’ ” the official quotes the starlet as saying when hearing the news. The official added that Saaya finds it hard to believe that she has played any kind of role to smooth bilateral relations.
But in a written message, Saaya says: “I would like to see good relations between Japan and China. If relations are good, I think everyone will be happy.”
Her very career should frighten her. I can’t express enough how sick this makes me. Her parents should be ashamed of themselves. She’s eleven freaking years old! (Here’s a link if you must know what she looks like)

That seems a rather uncommon Japanese surname. How do you pronounce Irie?
May 24th, 2005 at 5:58 pm
EE-ree-ay or EErie-ay
May 24th, 2005 at 9:09 pm
I totally agree. Although I’m willing to overlook the fact that an 11 year old girl probably does not posess the good judgement to be sufficiently frightened by the nature of her career, she is in no moral position to comment on anything.
May 24th, 2005 at 9:12 pm
As for the surname, she shares it with a rather well-known, Harvard-based, Japanese scholar of American History, Akira Iriye.
May 25th, 2005 at 7:27 am
Looking at her picture… can the “F-cup” statement be right? Maybe there are different bra sizes in Japan … At any rate, I don’t see how she looks any more developed than a (slightly busty) 14-year old. Granted, I’m not saying I want to see any more, I’m just saying that she doesn’t exactly look like a genetic freak of nature. (I guess by the description I expected something more circus side-show like.)

Well, what a row This beautiful young girl is
a) one year younger than the “Virgin” Mary was when she had Jesus (whose father was Mary’s uncle, don’t forget),
b) three years younger than the age of consent in Holland, c) One year younger than the age of consent in some American States.
So let’s hear no bollox about “pervs” ok?
Different races and cultures have different values, so don’t try and force YOUR opinions on others.
PS: I like small breasts !

One year younger than the age of consent in some American States?
age of consent in all states is 16.

Age of consent in all states is NOT 16.

she looks gorgeous to me. what’s so revolting about this? she’s a lovely girl. oh, that’s right. she’s 11 years old, and girls that young aren’t “supposed” to be attractive, so anyone that does find her attractive must be a sick, perverted individual who would probably rape every little girl in sight if he could get away with it. sigh
child molestation is wrong. finding a young girl to be lovely is not. it’s true that this young girl bloomed quite a bit early, but does that make it wrong to find her attractive? if i were asked how old she was just by looking at her photos, i’d have to say at least 16 or so. she looks nothing like most 11 year old girls. and any and all photos i’ve seen of her so far have been quite tasteful.
i think we have been trained as a society and by the media to over-react when the subject of finding a young girl attractive comes up. every child molestation case is sensationalized to the point of absurdity. people love to judge other people, and they love it most when everyone else will either agree with them, say they agree with them, or won’t speek out in fear of being judged right along with the accused.
beautiful is beautiful, regardless of the number of times the earth has gone around the sun since a girl’s birth.

I appreciate your comments, really I do, but there are some things I cannot tolerate on my web site: if you’re going to comment, PLEASE use proper punctuation and grammar. This is not a chat room.
As for what you’ve been saying, Barq, yes the girl is cute. I don’t think many people would come out against little girls or boys being cute. We all know kids are cute.
What I have a problem with is a little girl being marketed as a sex object. This isn’t a girl who randomly made an appearance on “Kids Say the Darnedest Things.” She appears in photobooks in bikinis and men on message boards openly drool over her.
The situation is hardly as innocent as you seem to think. In Japan there is a vast market of “cuteness” which includes Hello Kitty stuff, cute little girl groups like Morning Musume, and the ubiquitous “goods” for every character you can imagine. The intended market for this stuff is largely young girls themselves. If that were all I’d agree with you and say that we in the West are being too sensitive about this. But it’s not, and I have a feeling you know it too.
Somewhat separate from the cuteness market but not totally unrelated is the “idol” industry, which is a term describing the marketing of girls usually aged 13-24 or so as sex objects for men. They make TV appearances, put out books of photos and DVDs of them prancing about in bikinis and cat costumes. This industry has existed for years and is generally how most actresses in Japan get their start.
There also exists a large number of straight-up pedophiles in Japan that are generally accepted and the pop culture openly panders to. The most popular idols are the ones with “Lolita faces”. Check http://www.jlist.com or read the “Hentai reviews” on somethingawful.com to get an idea of what I mean. Think of those pictures everyone saw of Jon-Benet Ramsey with heavy makeup on, and then multiply the popularity of stuff like that by about 100.
Finding a girl lovely by itself isn’t wrong exactly, but why pay money for it or seek it out on the internet? If she were old enough to make her own decisions that would be one thing, but the fact is she is being exploited for her breasts—by her own parents most likely—and that is something I will never support.
May 30th, 2005 at 9:43 am
Sorry about the capitalization. I used to have a keyboard on which the favored Shift key was a bit sticky from one too many spilt sodas, and I’d gotten in the habit of just not using it most of the time long before the keyboard was replaced. It hardly worked at all, and when it did, it stuck down, acting as a caps lock. Most annoying.
Concerning your comments:
I don’t just think she’s cute. To me, she’s sexy. Would I pursue her with the knowledge that she’s not even in her teens yet? Nope. Does the knowledge that she’s just a kid change the fact that she’s sexy? Nope. Still looks like the same picture to me.
I think “exploited” is a bit harsh. She’s not nude. She’s not indecently dressed, not by most people’s standards today. If she didn’t have breasts, would this photo set be okay? Would it be okay if she weren’t 11 but 13 instead? 15? 17? Where do you draw the line? Like everything in life, this involves huge grey areas. We are not in full possession of the facts, either. For all we know, she could be quite a mature young lady, and may have grasped quite easily the full implications of the photos and all who see them. The fact that’s she so comfortable with her rapidly developing body to have photos of her taken says a lot, I think. I’ve met girls around her age before that were surprisingly mature for their young years. It’s not outside the bounds of possibility. Not even close.
I think it’s a bit silly for us to assume that she’s blissfully unaware of how attractive she is, that she’s just an innocent little girl that’s being taken advantage of by her evil parents. Her parents probably see this is a road to success and financial security for their daughter. What parent wouldn’t want that for their kid?
I just can’t wrap my mind around the idea that this young girl is being wronged somehow, that her quality of life and state of happiness are being eroded by her being a photo model.
May 30th, 2005 at 2:54 pm
Yeah she’s more like an ambitious B-cup, IF that. Someone who knows how to use photoshop spruced up her pics.
But yeah it’s totally wrong to exploit an 11 year old. I don’t care if you’re from the east or west—you’re looking at an 11 year old little girl and getting a boner, you should be ashamed of yourself. Reminds me of http://www.dahv.com—the american version of similar exploitation.

Saaya Irie
With the escalation of Sino-Japanese tensions, what has apparently become a prominent news item in Japan is that of the popularity of Saaya Irie (入江紗綾). I showed my roommate a picture:
Me: Dude, come here. See this, you’ll be disgusted.
Ro…
June 9th, 2005 at 10:22 am
when i first saw a picture of saaya, i honestly didnt even noticed her huge bust line (which for me isn’t what people are claiming to be size F).
i just noticed her nice face and read about how she is said to be a “miracle child”; by means of somehow bringing down the chinise-japanese tension.
June 15th, 2005 at 1:03 pm
Ok, is it just me or has everyone gone mad? Yes I agree with Barg that she is just a lovely young lady, and Adamu is absolutely correct in saying that this girl is being exploited sexually. How is this different then any American magazine or catalog that is trying to make money? I have seen young girls in bikinis modeling for any number of catalogs in the U.S. but because they are endowed as a normal child would be, there is no great media hype on it.
But everyone seems to be focusing on the borderline pornographic photographs and not the real issue here. Can we get past the point of what the girl looks like and ask our selves: what significant contribution could an 11 year old child make in a controversy that has lasted between the Chinese and Japanese governments for 100’s of years? Because of some large breasts, which by the way are not in short supply, tensions between the two governments have been eased? Are men truly that gullible? If in fact this is the case, I recommend that all women flash any man they come across; maybe we can end all war.
I am completely insulted by the reader’s commentary that this child is being exploited sexually for the mere fact that no one is getting the big picture here. How on earth could a child’s threat of “Please stop these anti-Japanese hijinks. If you don’t, I won’t like you anymore.” ease tension in any government? The only tension that is apparently being eased is within their trousers!
Honestly, I can not blame the parents for allowing their child to move ahead and create job security for herself; the one that I blame in all of this is the photographer. Who ever that person is, is truly the pervert here. For the most part this little girl is clothed in a manner that we have been seeing for years now. The sexual allure comes from the added effect of her being soaking wet in her school uniform, and that is completely the direction of the photographer. Those of us who are looking, for the most part are just curious about who this miracle child is and what miraculous thing she did or said that changed the view points of millions. And so I ask: what exactly did she do? Not a darn thing from what I can tell, other then find a way to bank roll her future.
June 15th, 2005 at 1:27 pm
Nicole: You have the story wrong. She isn’t actively campaigning for China-Japan friendship, her picture was simply posted without her permission on some Chinese message boards.
June 17th, 2005 at 1:21 pm
Ok so I went to those ‘horrible shocking photos’, and they were just the sort of thing you’d see in a JC Penny’s catalog..
“The very existence of this girl as a sex object makes me question my whole involvement with Japanese society.”

guess this is what the japs r best at
truly sad….

As I thought and read in some manga, F-cup is the biggest cup in Japan. So if Sa.. has F-cup, it’s only caused by a ..umh… ..maybe… confused hormone?!
August 21st, 2005 at 10:53 am
I don’t even know which is more disgusting… the parents who are willing to let their daughter be exploited like this, the Japanese government AND media for using her as some political tool to whitewash their horrible war crimes against China, or the Chinese men themselves who are willing to forget those very same crimes done against them just to because 11 year old breasts told them so.
Then again it doesn’t surprise me the Japanese would do something like this. What with all of their infatuation for very young girls dressed in school uniforms and posing seductively for horny old businessmen.

It saddens me when people judge other cultures based on there own. First, there was nothing offensive about the pics, and considering they were posted in a way that shamed the chinese, it seems to me that it made them realize that there actions were irrational. Second, the family has full knowledge of what there daughter is doing, you can’t judge them, you are not them. In the end the only person who has the right pass any judgement is God, and the last time I looked, are not him.

Saaya Irie is an extremely attractive young girl. Her face looks nothing like an eleven year old, both in terms of beauty and maturity, and I am quite sure her body is not the only part of her that has developed faster than the norm. There is unfathomable amounts of known and hidden exploitation in this world, and most of us do little about it. Is Saaya being exploited? Not at all. Do you think she is doing something here that she doesn’t understand, doesn’t feel comfortable with, or will feel regret about in the future? I am quite sure she is quite aware of who she is, how she looks, and what she is doing. There is nothing wrong with an attractive person being photographed, is there? The photos are all very ‘decent.’ So, the wet school uniform shots are obviously to fit the fantasies of Japanese men. They are still in no way degrading, or perverse, and fantasizing isn’t a crime. If it was, every man would be in prison. Heck, I’d be serving a life sentence!
The focus on this girl blinded many people of the real problem that was exposed. The Japanese government still will not admit to, or apologize for the crimes and cruelty it administered before and during WW2 in China, and during their occupation of Korea. The omissions and false teachings in school textbooks is further disrespect to those who suffered at the hands of the Japanese, and also an injustice to all Japanese students, who deserve to know the truth of their country’s history. Don’t get me wrong. I have nothing against Japan. Infact, I love the place. Japan is a great country, with great people. War crimes unfortunately are part of every war, but denying the acts and refusing to apologize for them is just wrong.

People just exagerrated! F-Cup in Japan is equal to C-D. I should know, I have DD (NA) size breasts and they are definitely bigger than HERS! But it is pretty big for an Asian girl. I know a few young Caucasian girls who have bigger boobs than her and are just as skinny but they are not exploited & they don’t have their boobs posted all over the internet. I feel sorry for this Saaya if nothing else.
May 2nd, 2006 at 11:45 am
Maybe Irie Saaya isn’t that popular in malaysia yet.
But I feel sorry for saaya though…
I do hope she grows up with a happy life!

A young Jap girl with a huge rack. Although she denies it, she probaly gotten plastic surgery. Could one day beat out Bunko Kanazawa as Japan’s top AV queen.(urbandictionary.com) I for one hate her, and everything else that might soften relationships between China. I admit she’s cute, but women is nothing compared to country.
p.s.
For all the guys that think she’s hot, just know that those boobs will sag when she grows old…..
December 19th, 2006 at 2:56 am
hmm…
Eh, it’s freedom of choice to keep on with her “business”, since she’s pretty hot. Pedophilia? Then, why did they allow her to pose and model like that. If she unknowingly united 2 countries, so what? At least we won’t have to worry about another war, and…we’ll have a hot porn star when she becomes legal. That’s a fact.
