Sex
And the Japanese women
A survey on their mating habits in different areas of Japan.

"From 1996, I began conducting surveys of the sex
activities of ordinary women, office workers, housewives
and so on, via my home page on the Internet. Through this,
I thought I could get a more specific feeling of how the
climate and customs in different parts of Japan would have
an affect on female sexuality. That led to my establishment
of the 'Sexual Feeling Research Institute.'"
Speaking
to Asahi Geino (Nov 4) is Wataru Irokawa, the nom de plume
of an author of erotic fiction.
"While
humans may all be equal in terms of their desire for erotic
love, perhaps due to the hypocritical mass media, aspects
of sexuality are not being reported, or if they are, then
only superficially at best," elucidates Irokawa - whose
full name translates as "crossing the river of sex."
"The
fact is, when the stomach is hungry, one eats; when the
heart is hungry, one seeks romance; and when the body is
hungry, one desires sex. I believe this is a fundamental
human condition, and I'd like to convey to males and females
alike how they can achieve greater enjoyment."
So,
according to the 280 women around Japan who have cooperated
in Irokawa's survey, what sort of conclusions has he drawn
with regard to their "lechery ratings"?
According
to Irokawa, the females who draw the greatest pleasure from
the sexual act hail from Hokkaido, Iwate and Gifu. ("All
the women I asked in Hokkaido said they did it because they
enjoyed it," he relates.)
On the
other hand, women who moan the loudest come from Chiba,
followed by Fukuoka and Nagano. Chiba, likewise, boasts
the highest percentage of vibrator ownership, again followed
by Fukuoka and then Kumamoto.
(Females
in these three prefectures have a reputation for being virtuosos
at teasing men.)
For
reasons that Irokawa could not fully explain, the gals of
Akita, Fukushima and Yamanashi were most likely to lapse
into unconsciousness resulting from sexual ecstasy.
Ladies
from Kyoto, Nagano and Okayama, meanwhile, were most likely
to admit they enjoyed pleasuring themselves. ("Perhaps
because these areas tend to exclude outsiders, and also
became women are so proud, they have fewer opportunities
for easy sex," he explains.)
As far
as who can be seduced the most quickly, gals from Hokkaido
were found to have the roundest heels ("They have a
pioneering spirit that makes them more willing to hop in
the sack with a man the first day them meet him"),
followed by gals from Saitama and Shiga.
Among
the other findings: Lassies from Niigata become the wettest,
to the point that they spurt a legendary "salty spray"
during orgasm. (Gals from Tokushima and Yamanashi are also
known to soak the bed sheets.)
Chicks
from Okinawa are most amenable to being mounted from behind,
whereas those in Ehime are more submissive to a partner's
request, and those from Oita have a strong propensity for
kinky sex.
Finally,
on the topic of which women boast the nation's most prized,
er, honey pots, Irokawa tabulated this based on male responses
to such factors as internal muscular control over their
physical equipment.
And
the winner was ... Nara, followed by Tokushima - where the
famous "Awa Odori" folk dance is said to strengthen
muscle tone - with Hiroshima rounding out the top three.
Of course,
Asahi Geino concedes, one is likely to find considerable
variation even within the boundaries of the same prefecture.
These
fanciful rankings, then, are intended to do little more
than initiate an energetic debate on one of Japan's most
popular topics.
