Prominent NYC Studio gives fans a chance to live a dream

Norwalk, CT, September 17, 2008:  The New York Anime Festival (NYAF) today announced Who Wants To Be A Voice Actor?, a voice acting contest produced by leading New York City recording studios NYAV Post and TripWire Productions, will return to the convention for its second year.  Who Wants To Be A Voice Actor?, hosted by NYAV Post founder Michael Sinterniklaas and TripWire Productions founder Tom Wayland, will put attendees through a series of contests, testing their vocal skills and range, narrowing voice actor hopefuls down until only one remains.  The winner will get the chance of a lifetime to be cast in an upcoming animated series.

The New York Anime Festival, an anime, manga, and Japanese pop culture convention from the creators of New York Comic Con, takes place September 26th through the 28th at the Jacob Javits Center in New York, NY.  Who Wants To Be A Voice Actor? runs from 11:15 AM to 1:15 PM on Sunday, September 28th.  Contestants wishing to enter can download an application now from newyorkanimefestival.com.

"We're very pleased to be working with Tom and Mike again this year," NYAF Show Manager Lance Fensterman said.  "Not only are they giving anime fans an amazing opportunity, but they're both from New York City, and it's very important to us to foster and celebrate the professional anime community right here in NYC."

ABOUT MICHAEL SINTERNIKLAAS:
Michael Sinterniklaas is a voice actor, dubbing director, and the founder of NYAV Post, a dubbing studio based in New York City. He's currently the voice of Dean Venture in Adult Swim's The Venture Bros. and Leonardo in the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Mike's also the voice of Leo in Fullmetal Alchemist, Mikey Simon in Kappa Mikey, and Mahad in Yu-Gi-Oh! In the past, Sinterniklaas has dubbed shows including Twin Signal, Weiss Kreuz, Magic User's Club, and Berserk.

ABOUT TOM WAYLAND:
Tom Wayland graduated from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts with a degree in acting and performed in theatrical productions ranging from Hamlet to Stomp to Jesus Christ Superstar. He then spent some time as a rock star roaming the East Coast until his Money ran out. Instead of getting a real job, Tom started work at NYC-based anime company Central Park Media and then founded his own dubbing studio, TripWire Productions. To date, Tom has produced and directed more than 200 shows including Alien Nine, The World of Narue, Animation Runner Kuromi, and Kakurenbo. Also a voice actor, Tom can be heard as Jammerjaw in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Stormshadow in GI Joe: Sigma 6, Reggie in Pokemon, Sena in Weiss Kreuz, Daiki in Genshiken, and Ryuichi in Joe vs. Joe. Dattebayo, Chihiro-Subs, Live-Evil and other fansubbers will engage in a new format panel at Otakon 2008 in Baltimore this weekend.

Representatives and staff from several fansubbing groups, will engage in a live, moderated discussion with anime industry staff Lance Heiskell, Director of Marketing at FUNimation, and John Sirabella, CEO of Media Blasters, about fansubbing.

This new format panel will be the one of the only times industry personnel and fansubbing staff have engaged in a public discussion about anime. We think it will be interesting and well worth your time at the convention.

The panel takes place at Otakon 2008 on Saturday August 9 at 5:30 PM in panel room 4 and is scheduled to run an hour and a half. There will be a period of time allotted for questions and answers.

As a special bonus, if you happen to run across one of the several Dattebayo staff members that will be attending the convention, they will have a limited number of DB buttons to give out to their fans/enemies. In addition, assuming FedEx comes through, they will have temporary tattoos with a brand new DB logo custom designed by their multi-talented translator rhole. Tattoos are not for sale in their store and will only be available at the convention. So if you see someone who is wearing or carrying a suspicious amount of Dattebayo merchandise, feel free to strike up a conversation.

Hey am just thinking Chihiro might decide to send a staff there, i know it will be a great chance to meet those who helps you understand the animes you watch everyday. Laugh

Not sure if you've seen it yet but here is the official poster for Dragonball the movie which is out 2009 March *Friday 13th*.

Rear view of leading actor Justin Chatwin in orange gi with kame kanji

The Sankei Shimbun paper has posted the first poster from the Dragonball live-action film that features a main character on Friday. The poster portrays Canadian actor Justin Chatwin (War of the Worlds, The Invisible, Lost television series), who stars as Son Goku, in his familiar orange gi martial arts uniform complete with the kanji for kame ("turtle" for his mentor Master Roshi or Kame Sennin) on the back. Just as in the previous teaser poster, the new poster's Japanese text reads when translated: "The legend comes to life." The new poster also adds the following text: "Opens worldwide at maximum speed on March 13, 2009."

Twentieth Century Fox signed director James Wong (Final Destination, X-Files television series, The One) to adapt Akira Toriyama's shonen fighting manga. Viz Media publishes the original manga in North America, while Funimation distributes the anime version.

Update: The second tagline can be translated as the following: "World's earliest opening [in Japan] on March 13, 2009."
