Methane, a potent greenhouse gas, is leaking from the permafrost under the Siberian seabed, a researcher on an international expedition in the region told Swedish daily Dagens Nyheter on Saturday.
"The permafrost now has small holes. We have found elevated levels of methane above the water surface and even more in the water just below. It is obvious that the source is the seabed," Oerjan Gustafsson, the Swedish leader of the International Siberian Shelf Study, told the newspaper.

The tests were carried out in the Laptev and east Siberian seas and used much more precise measuring equipment than previous studies, he said.

Methane is more than 20 times more efficient than carbon dioxide in trapping solar heat.

Scientists fear that global warming may cause Siberia's permafrost to thaw and thereby release vast amounts of methane into the atmosphere. The effects of global warming are already most visible in the Arctic region.

This is the work of Methane Hydrates formed under low temperatures, high pressure, and with the presence of both Methane and Water. Slowly melting away...

And some will laugh and say "methane is not a greenhouse gaz", "there is a 0.0001% inaccuracy in the calculation method", tonight is colder than yesterday during the day, and oh! by the way, there was no ice on the North Pole before so all this about permaforst so nothing is happening, or winter is colder than summer, or there are 10 years solar cycles, and all similar irrelevent points. They do not have the wisdom to silence in this difficult time (even after being proven wrong over and over again), and certainly not to help do good things but make things much more complicated for actions that are needed.

You must know that temperatures are colder during nights than days. You also know about solar cycles? Compare day temperatures during a high solar cycle with a night temperatures during a low cycle. On average they will be higher. Are you lost at this point or can we continue? Supposing that you don't dissagree with this, can you agree that there can be many elements that affect climates and temperatures and not only one? I mean, days, nights, solar cycles, las ninas and el nino to name a few no one should argue about.
Can you also agree that comparing a night temperature during a low solar cycle this year with a day temperature during a high cycle several years ago and conclude that temperatures are declining is false (and I also mean totaly dishonest). If you agree we can continue to discuss.
