There was a big show at The Arena in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon last night with WBC/WBA Super Flyweight Champion Cristian Mijares retaining his belts against challenger Chatchai Sasakul in dominating fashion.
26 year old southpaw Mijares, 36-3-2 (15), who hasn't lost a bout since July, 2002 and held a twelve year advantage in youth against Sasakul, 64-4 (39), beat his Thai opponent to the punch throughout the first two rounds.
By the third frame, the 38 year old ex-WBC Flyweight titlist was getting banged around badly and was stopped at 1:05 of the round after going to the canvas for the second time.
Sasakul had gone 31-1 since losing the WBC Flyweight title to Manny Pacquiao in 1998.
In other bouts on the card, big punching Mexican Middleweight Champ Ruben "Cloroformo" Padilla, 16-2-1 (15), stopped Nicaragua's Wilmer Gonzalez, 16-8-1 (10), in the eleventh of a scheduled twelve round non-title contest.
Undefeated flyweight Koki Kameda, 19-0 (12), posted a twelve round unanimous decision over Salvador Montes, 5-5 (2), to annex the vacant WBA Intercontinental title while former WBC Female Super Flyweight Champ Ana Marie Torres, 16-3-2 (10), came closer to regaining her title by winning the WBC Interim crown against Esmeralda Moreno, 9-4 (3), by ten round UD.
