Kosuke Kitajima, who won gold medals in the men's 100-meter and 200-meter breaststroke events at the Beijing Olympic Games, denied news reports that he has decided to retire.
"I've never mentioned retirement. I'd like to take time to think about it. I don't think I'll make a decision soon," Kitajima told a news conference after returning to Japan on Tuesday night.
Meanwhile, Takeshi Matsuda, who won the bronze medal in the men's 200-meter butterfly, expressed satisfaction with his performance. "I'm glad because it was the goal I had been trying to achieve over the past four years. I'd like to continue my career, but I haven't set any specific future goals."
Reiko Nakamura, who captured the bronze in the women's 200-meter backstroke, said she met her expectations at the Beijing Olympics. "I brought out my best in the competition. I'll relax for a while and then make a decision on my future."
