Headwaters Arts show and sale festival coming in the fall

The ninth annual Headwaters Arts Festival Art Show and Sale, featuring 40 of the area's most talented artists, will run from Sept. 27 and Oct. 5.

It will be at the SGI Centre for Culture and Education in Alton.

Cash awards will be presented to participating artists at the Festival Launch Party Sept. 26 and there will be a special memorial tribute to Ken Danby, with assistance from his wife Gillian.

A special Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Paul Burdette, founder of the Burdette Gallery, by his long-time friend Robert Bateman.

The panel of distinguished jurors for the art show will included John Kissick, an artist and writer who has published reviews and is currently Director of the School of Fine Art and Music at the University of Guelph; Ted Fullerton, program coordinator of fine arts at Georgian College, who works in contemporary painting, printmaking and sculpture; Janet Dawson, freelance art historian and former gallery owner, who has lectured on a variety of topics in Canada, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, and Mexico, and who is currently writing on the works of Colombian artist Juanita Perez who is now based in Mexico City; Anne Stubbs, designer and owner of Beaver Mills Design Inc., in Erin, which showcases a mix of antique and modern furnishings and art; and Tony Meers, general director of Soka Gakkai International (SGI) Association of Canada, and who worked as a freelance illustrator for 20 years.

The exhibition will consist of approximately 200 works of art selected by the jury, in ceramics, sculpture, glass, drawing, painting, fibre, jewelry, photography, glass and mixed media. All works will be for sale.

The artists contributing to the Headwaters Arts Festival Art Show and Sale live, work or exhibit in the Hills of Headwaters region, which includes Caledon, Halton and Peel, Dufferin and Wellington Counties, Erin and surrounding areas northwest of Toronto.

The premier event of the Headwaters Arts Festival, the Festival Launch Party the evening of Sept. 26, opens the 17-day festival with an evening of art and music with refreshments from The Wine Coaches and Mill Street Brewery, and a stand-up gourmet dinner by Gourmandissimo Fine Food and Catering from Caledon East and Orangeville's One99 Restaurant. Musical guests this year will include Rusty Ephemeris and Susan Lind, who offer a beautiful blend of Celtic music. Guests are invited to preview the Art Show and Sale and meet the artists, community partners, art lovers and supporters that make the festival
