Brenda Tenegra
Brenda Tenegra is a Special Lecturer in the School of Sociology and Social Policy of the University of Nottingham. She obtained her PhD in Sociology and Gender Studies from Ochanomizu University in Tokyo. Her PhD dissertation has explored the multi-tiered politics of remittance from the experiences of Filipina domestic workers. It involved a survey and fieldwork in the Philippines and Japan.
While the empirical focus of her dissertation was on Filipina domestic workers, the intention was not only to qualify their individually unique experiences, but also use the insights gathered from her research interviews and fieldwork to illuminate discussions of migration, remittance and gender at a broader level.
Throughout her PhD studies, Brenda has had extensive opportunity to present both her own work and joint research outputs to diverse academic audience.
The areas of study that interest her most include migration, gender, citizenship, domestic/reproductive work, healthcare and ageing.
She is currently doing a research on the lived experiences of the Filipino/Filipina caregivers and nurses in the East Midlands.
