it's from the welcome thread @ http://www.the-scream.co.uk/forums/t20621.html - which has an embedded 'mid' file - I spect that's the cause of the popup?

I don't think you need a plugin to play a mid (midi) file but it looks like the cause of the problem mebbe?

Crescendo is a Midi file player, it is an ActiveX plugin for IE.
You must have installed the plugin from a Website to play an online Midi file at some time and now the Player wants to update, hence the Popup.

From what I read yesterday, but couldnt reply obviously. It isnt even available anymore from the makers site and many people said it wasnt needed, WMP or other players are now used instead.

If you use Windows Media Player for your sound/music on the net/offline, maybe you can re-associate Midi files with that program.

Confirm what you use and I will try and help you associate the Midi files with your Player.

I also found a website, after hours of searching, that has instructions to remove the Player if needed, but will wait till you reply back first and if it is needed.

Hiya.

So Real Player is the program you use and as Doggy Doo said above, it is also associated with R/P and IE, Mozilla, etc.

You are using RP as your main player, so it is pointless uninstalling Crescendo. If you used WMP, it would be a simple tick in a box, to re-associate the Midi files, with WMP.

I will have to go and search for the Options available in Crescendo and see if the Update can be stopped.

Be back in a bit, hopefully with some info.

The above has lost me! The pop up says accept or decline, as I do not understand. I click on decline at the moment.

Thanks Johnny for help.

OK, I think I have it sussed.

The popup window is an update for RealPlayer, it is trying to install Crescendo Forte, which isnt the same as the one I mentioned earlier. This is a specific plugin for RealPlayer, which is needed to play Midi files in RP.

I have just partially installed this Crescendo Forte and as you can see from the screen pic below, it is exactly the same text as yours.

I have just now edited my post, after I read the Licence Agreement.

This is what I call ForceWare. It is an evaluation for 30 days, upon expiring, you have to buy the Crescendo plugin. I DETEST these kind of scams, when they know you need the damned plugin.

So it is up to you if you Accept the licence and pay for the plugin later. Personally I would associate WMP to Midi files and have done with it, it just means WMP will play Midi files instead of RealPlayer.

To associate Midi files to WMP, open WMP and on the toolbar, select Tools > Options.... Then in the next window click on the File Types tab, look for MIDI file (midi) in the list, tick the box next to it, click Apply and OK out. See if that works with the Welcome post Silver mentioned below, without that Crescendo popup window appearing.

As a side note, when I visit some websites that has music playing in the background, it just plays. I dont use any of the players much so cannot say what plays them unforunately.

Thumbs up Re: Pop up question

Johnny,
Thats the pop up! I hate it as well, when they are after you money and will not accept it.
Going now to follow your instructions for WMP.
Fingers crossed when I come back to the link here all will be well.

Many Thanks for your time. x
